Qantas Project Sunrise goes ahead, 12 new A350-1000s ordered

There was something mentioned about a stetch zone for Y and W

Then there will be a general announcement to not congregate in certain areas.
I hope there will not be any activewear and people doing yoga in those areas.

The QF exercise video does not mention using stretch zones. So there should be no expectations of an enhancement.

Does anyone know how many hours would Sunrise flights are, eg SYD-LHR, and SYD-JFK?

I did LAX-SIN on SQ Y recently and that was 18 hours. It was better than I thought (and survived) but my bum hurts due to the lack of padding in the seating. A stretch zone is definitely needed as I ended up walking a bit to stretch myself during the flight.

PER-LHR takes on average 17:15hrs and 7829nm (great circle)

SYD-LHR is 9188nm which 1.17x distance of PER-LHR.
So projected time possibly 1.17 x 17:15 = 20:15hrs

JFK-SYD is 8646nm which is 1.15x distance of DFW-SYD 7454nm

DFW-SYD flight time avg 16:45hrs
So projected JFK-SYD flight time possibly 19hrs

To that add about 90 minutes for the preflight duties for the pilots.

Not much change from 22hrs for the pilots for a SYD-JFK

LAX-SIN is similar to DFW-SYD at 7621nm.
Depending on routing and winds can be 16-17hrs

They’re saying 20 odd hrs - so not much longer?

Well you can guarantee one thing here.
No "independent" reviewer invited by the airline will be asked to do an indepth review of Y

The airline did mention that Y pitch would be 33in. Apart from that, the airline has already stated (by omission) that it does not consider Y passengers to be worthy of considerations for wellbeing and comfort
And yet economy passengers are the ones likely to suffer the most on long flights. Stretch zone is only useful if you go and spend the entire flight there and not in an uncomfortable seat.

I know most people may not care but would love to know which warped mind thinks it's OK to have seats already reclined. They've done this on some coaches and it's awful. I've got back issues and need to be upright for longs periods of time.

It's already difficult trying avoid the A350 but if every airline orders this aircraft then it's going to make flying difficult. LCCs are not suited to long hauls and 6 hours in A320s is not the answer either.
