Qantas Project Sunrise goes ahead, 12 new A350-1000s ordered

J and F - Looks good, havenā€™t seen the premium Y or Y product though, not that I plan to fly down that end hopefully!

I don't know if EK/QR have that though, given QR's propensity to do whatever they want to humans I wouldn't be surprised if they ignored it anyway!
Yes, Qatar does and my point was that they actually DID adhere to it rather than ignoring it. At least that was my experience in September.

There is no such thing as fast wireless charging. And devices get very hot. For example there have been phones allegedly damaged due to wireless charging on some next gen Ford rangers. The heat might be a safety issue on an aircraft. Have there been phone fires due to wireless charging?
Yes there is. 5W is standard. 10W is fast charging for wireless. If your phone supports it it shows fast instead of standard with reduced charge time.

I'm not familiar with the Ford Ranger charging issues so can't comment. One example of something being poorly implemented is not a reason not to do something.

Modern phones and decent wireless charges to slow and stop charging if it's overheating. No rocket science here.

How fast would it need to be on a 20 hour flight?

IF you leave your phone on the charge the entire flight and don't use it, not an issue. But say you board your flight and your phone battery is pretty low and also want to use your phone. have a fast wireless charge is beneficial.

My main point here is QF, if you're going to do it, just do it properly.

Yes there is.

The iPhone 14 using Apple proprietary MagSafe wireless charging (which is capable of up to 15W) takes over 2 hours to charge from 0-100. This is because wireless charging generates heat and the phone intelligently throttles down charging rates to reduce thermal load.

That's anything but fast:

You do realise that fast charging is relative to the original wireless charging, not in comparison to wired?

Yes but it is still not fast by any measure
The original wireless charging was very slow. Faster than slow does not make it fast. It's still slow.

Wireless charging though does not need to be fast though as the flight is 20hrs. So even a fast wireless may be more than adequate.

The other potential concern is the RF noise created by wireless charging. It's apparently at 915Mhz. Not sure if this poses an issue with aircraft operations.

Maybe, I found it super convenient on Qatar the other day: You put the phone into the holder, no cables or anything needed. And at your destination you phone is ā€œmagicallyā€ fully charged (and also burning hot). Pretty neat, I found!

Maybe for the Apple products. My Galaxy S10 would fast charge from about 15% to 100% in About 80 to 90 minutes. Not overheating issues. Perhaps your speed issues are the brand of phone you have ;)

Really open mind you've got there calling a product "woeful" that hasn't even been produced yet
I think the hard product looks great but yes I donā€™t have much faith that the soft product will improve over the current dire product unless there is a massive overhaul so fingers crossed

Had a bit of a longer look at the images produced with the QF Sunrise Cabins blurb.

On the outside of the First Suites are these symbols - anyone suggest what they might represent (I appreciate its 'prototype', but someone thought these should be appropriate).

The last one: ?Lock? I'm not aware of any pax suite doors that lock. Maybe its 'Do not disturb' ?

Again, acknowledging that we've only seen 'prototypes', it looks like they are going for the high ceiling, no overhead bins layout for the central sections of the business cabin. QR has this in their B777s (IIRC) and its not a positive. The side bins are very large and seem to hold everyone's stuff, but it means 'other people' leaning over your side suite to get to their bin but more importantly for me, it means no personal air vents in the middle section. I find these enclosed suites can get warm to uncomfortably warm with the doors closed, so I always want an air vent, and always go the side (and rear facing, so the seat is by the window). EYs Apartments didn't have an air vent and I roasted, there. Small point - they've got the bins' doors with their hinge at the top - again, not optimal as things can drop out, and the capacity is less. Again, its prototype but I'd say they've put a bit of work into these.

Actually in First, it looks like no overhead bins. I wonder if that's what is actually contemplated, due to the abundant in-suite space? Again, no personal vent is a big negative for me, esp for the very long Sunrise flights (but offered a freebie, I'd give it a go :) )
