Qantas Salt & Pepper Squid thread

It's also a staple in every CLounge I've been in.
I'm now well and truly sick of it so never order it and can't contribute to the thread - but for the benefit of devotees perhaps some CL pics may make their way here.

Having never been into a Qantas F lounge
If you always fly on points the only way to get in is to fly F or get guested in by someone flying revenue. Has to be a few perks for those flying revenue.
I used to order this dish every time I visited the SYD Flounge.I felt the dish now is not as good as it was and I no longer feel the need to order it.
The true frequent flyer. My visits have been pretty infrequent so I still find it a novelty.

In my experience, it's consistently great in Sydney, and it's consistently terrible in LA. Also they need to give you 3 times as much of the green dressing.

As an aside, the dining experience in the LA First lounge is always pretty consistently terrible in my experience.

Personally I think the kitchen in BNE does it better. However, none of these orders are mine. @GPH is the one who likes it, and I'll occasionally have 1 piece for old times sake.

My cure from Flounge S&P Squid was different and over a decade ago.
Blasphemy! Strip this man of all admin privileges.
I had some QF First lounge S&P squid ~2008 that was rancid in the middle. I was a bit queasy after that. Until then I had been a fan of it - I have not eaten it since.

This memory was reinforced early last year in LAX:
Arrived at the First lounge about 7:45 and the place is busy if not bursting.

The place reeked of battered fishyness and not in a good way as a pale miasma of steam/cooking gasses was erupting from the kitchen area, although it has cleared up a bit recently - sounds like they have turned the exhaust fans up.

Service has been attentive ...
Too many WP flying Y?
No ... more likely they were pre-cooking a large batch of S'n'P Squid for the evening and the exhaust fans could not cope ...

I did move tables to the other side of the restaurant area, away for the kitchen aperture.

Still prefer my own most Friday nights when I return home from the pub raffles. Some squid from the local fish retailer, a little flour with some salt and pepper and a small amount of chilli powder all mixed together and the 90 seconds in the deep fry. Looks exactly the same and i'm sure the taste is better. No need to swan around a F club or CL for me

I do basically the same thing but add a bit of Masterfoods Cajun Spice instead of chilli powder.

Thank goodness there is nothing important to discuss

Maybe you should start a thread 'My home cooked seafood' ;) and leave us to our Qantas S&P S enjoyment (or otherwise).:p

We’ve been eating the dish since it first appeared, helps when you travel in a family pack as there are always plenty of plates / options when ordering for 4/5 people.

Some photos from 2019.

First three are from SYD Flounge
