I just asked my 3yo if she knew who her parents are. Nope didn't understand the word, but knew who Mum and Dad are.
Are you same sex parents?

So your comment about oldies stuffed up the environment (what do you consider oldies?)
lol. autocorrect. changed now.
Any company.
The word Chair is gender neutral and perfectly acceptable.
Well I’m just wondering when we we rewrite the history of Mankind.Chairman is gender neutral, at least if we understand the origins of english.
Anyone who objections to chairman, also needs to object to person

and of course woman, women

Actually that theory has been debunked for quite some time. Something to do with assuming a Latin root “manus” meaning hand. I’m sure a google search will reveal the specifics

If you want family surname uniformity I suppose all males can just change their surname to their wife/spouses surname. Did you cringe at the idea of you changing your surname? So did I, at the thought of changing mine to my husbands when I married 18yrs ago...... all of whom have different last names is just silly.....
There were 2 mums at my son’s school back in the 90’s.If they were a same sex family, wouldnt they then be mum and mum or dad and dad. Maybe with a variation of mum and mum and a dad if there was a friend/IVF situation or dad and dad and aunty/friend who may have carried or supplied the egg.
Its a new world and as I get older, less boxes we all fit in. Which is nice most of the time.

Grammar thread?Actually every child there had a mother so probably hundreds of mums depending on the size of the school.
Did you mean to say you were aware of a "family with two mums in the 90s"?
Also is the OP suggesting that Qantas language policy be based on what a three year old thinks?Possibly, but the point was that if the OP is a heterosexual couple, the evidence provided by their child is possibly not relevant. A same sex couple's child may be more aware of their situation and have a different answer.
Here is an article worth a read :

Well, human doesn’t work either. It's a good read. the objections are interesting. Manus always manifests as "Manu" based on example with "manu" at the beginning. I struggle with the concept that english evolution would not have dropped the u from chairmanu. But then there should be examples in older texts.
french and latin roots are rarely combined - could this be one of the rare examples?
But overall if people what to ignore the meaning of chairman as the manager because it has gender based word on the end, I do not see how replacing it with a word that still has that same word on the end, "chairwoman", or another gender based word, "chairperson", fixes the problem.
Umm manager - is that an example were MANU is not used?
would it become the history of humankind?
