$370? nice!! for the dates i want i can only get ~$450 [12/7-17/7]

it is going to depend on availability but what I am amazed at with the SIN specials is there availability during school holidays... that's what has sold it for me especially

Right through Dec 31 IIRC

unfortunately my partner is studying full time at the moment so I am forced to take leave during school holidays but thanks to this and the last sale I have snagged great prices during both mid year and september school holidays. Those mid year flights are close to sold out now!

Am I missing something? The dates I want the br site is the same price as the qantas page. I haven't followed this thread so if I need to read more of the earlier pages of the thread then please tell me and I will overcome my laziness and do it.

.br is in BRL currency, convert it.

Either that or your browser is not pointing to .br correctly.

Yeah, I converted it. The prices were cheaper on bravofly.com even with their fees.

MEL-SIN 6/7-18/7, it must have been due to the dates. I looked at MEL-SIN thinking no decent prices would show for flights from ADL. Amateurish mistake not spending enough time looking!

Made some adjustments to dates after looking at skyscanner and found an ADL-SIN for $540 or so via SYD. Good enough for me!

The availability expedia brazil can see is not identical to what qantas.com or my Aussie point of sale gds can see.

Just wondering if these sites are using IP addresses to force geo-location prices. Thankfully, there are proxies.
Would be a hoot to name and shame sites using this crude estimator, and quantify their bias.

$370 return to SIN is fantastic. Guess QF loads to SIN aren't that great right now.

I tried the .br site, but it only accepts MC and Visa credit cards. I have an AmEx Plat which I use for all my travel bookings as it gives me complementary travel insurance... so I now have to decide whether to book my ticket through QF site (using my AmEx) or the .br site (using MC or Visa), and note that adding travel insurance will chew up most of the saving on the .br site :-( Any thoughts?

Actually, silly me - forgot that the card I booked with (CBA Plat) actually has travel insurance! I usually book with my Amex. Thanks hossein.au!

Depending on certain factors the insurance could be well under $100 - surely you'd still be ahead booking through .br?

Cheers
Febs.

...or not. CBA Plat has a $1k minimum pre-paid travel spend each. Our accomm isn't pre-paid. :(

Last couple of times I flew this route, the load was really light on a 747. According to the crew, "can fit in a 737".

Yes and no; I am looking into a MEL-HAM trip in July and another one in Oct. The difference between .br and QF sites are about $200. So the difference is not that great. Speaking of those two trips, any "innovative" routes/ideas/etc?

Is this a prelude to QFi justifying pulling out of Asia to be replaced with JQ?
I don't think so. There is premium demand there and I think QF is a very smart airline...they would know that removing one major part of the network would severely impact through-traffic and custom on other parts of the international and domestic network.

Large parts of QFi have run at a loss for many years but it has been easily possible to run this with the huge profitability of the Trans-Pacific services. Since OpenSkies that profit has evaporated with the entrance of VA and DL, thus QFi no longer has a profit machine to subsidise the losses in to Asia. I believe Europe is sustainable now with the great EK network which helps. I am not sure QF will ever make money going in to Asia but with some changes and new aircraft (read: 787) coming online over the next 5 years a return to profitability (or at least, neutrality) should be achievable.

However these prices won't last forever, again I suspect the powers that be at QF are more than aware of this trick but are willing to persist with it, for now, to ensure they at least put some bums on seats during these transitional phases.
