One of the flights I booked flies through BNE has a short time period between touching down and take off (80 minutes). Am I able to check my luggage through to SIN from Sydney or am I going to have to collect it in BNE?

I am not too worried about the time if I don't need to collect, but if I do... that could be pushing things. I might have to ask politely for a priority tag if that is the case.

It will be through checked, 80 minutes is not an issue at BNE.

Can I check, doesn't that depend on whether your connecting flight is one that is part of the trip or whether you did it as 'multiple destinations'?

What I mean this this. Say you search for a SYD-SIN flight, the options that come up are the usual direct flight options followed usually by the indirect flight options - ie with a stopover (for example, a stopover in MEL). If you choose these indirect flights, it makes sense that QF is responsible for you to get to your final destination.

If however, when you make the booking you selected the 'multiple destinations' option - ie Flight 1 = SYD-MEL, chose your dates and then Flight 2 = MEL-SIN, I'm not sure if QF will arrange for you to be connect to your next flight. For instance, you could have booked your SYD-MEL for 1 day, decide to stay in MEL for 3 days then flight to SIN. If you wanted this you would book using the 'multiple destinations' option. QF would consider these two legs as separate flights. So wouldn't they view all 'multiple destination' bookings as separate flights regardless of whether you choose to book these 'separate' flights as one after another rather than with days in between?

How you book it is to a certain extent irreverent, if its a flight that has another flight within 24 hours its a connection if on the same booking. If its a stopover you cannot through check.

There is also a thing called "MCT" or "Minimum Connection Time" which is a published minimum time for transfers at an airport or co-terminal in the one booking.

Bookings cannot be made with a connection of less than the MCT.

An MCT at an airport can vary between carrier, flight numbers, connection type (e.g. International to Domestic).

FWIW, I'd be querying nate89's 80 minute connection (assuming D/I)!

Here's the published MCT for QF BNE, Dom to Int:Results from ExpertFlyer.com

Bit the bullet and booked a trip today for the Melbourne cup weekend. MEL-SIN-SGN return QF/JQ. 1858 Brazilian Real (paid with 28degreescard $920, $460 each, bargain!) for two people including the first night at a cheapy accommodation which will not be used.

Am QF Gold so will get to check out the new Singapore lounge both ways which will be good. So a quick question for the masses is what are the best seats on the A330 in economy? Have selected 25J and 25K at the moment, this was as far forward as I could get as a Gold. Any tips on anything better?

FWIW I find row 23 recently has a lot of babies, so on the weekend took the last row seats, which seemed to have more recline but noise from the galley.

And a few more empty seats to spread out in?

The CSS was surprised to see a WP in the last row and said as much, but the platinum shadow worked and I had first dibs on all meals so it was kind of cool, and I had the recline on all flight as I did not need to worry about anyone behind me.

There is the BA flight at 15:40. Still gets into SIN early enough to still get hawker food..

Heaps of time ;)

I had some hawker food at 04:30 the other day after some 'drinks' :p

(NB: that was a weekend).

Less than 24 hours to go for booking!
I feel like your insisting that I should book this time... I wonder if that logic will fly with the person paying for the flights - markis10 baited/encouraged/challenged me too so I had to do you, you understand right?? lol.. hmm actually that will probably work!

Hmm, a WP earns 18000 odd points for a spend of $400, you dont need me to prompt you LOL.

Actually I was not correct, its just over 24 hours to go:

Same - except I'm now cursing why there aren't any public holidays between now and Christmas?!! (except for the Victorians and the bankers).

NSW and Queensland have the Oct long weekend, as well as Ekka which is a Stupid Wednesday holiday. ACT also has Labour day as well as family day.

We just got back from 1 month holiday in USA (disneyworld for a week at animal kingdom lodge club room, plus new york, dallas, boston, vegas, la - ie expensive) .. I should have booked it while we were away as I could have probably gotten away with it being holiday spending but I am trying to be responsible now as we just bought our first house - investment only and used all of our savings for the deposit.
You raise many good points, as this thread has done for the last few months.
I will literally cry if we miss out I think.
...
I might see whats left next year

My apologies for my ignorance, but what exactly is ending in just over 24 hours? :S

The ability to book a weekend away that earns 18000 points and 80 SC in Singapore for circa AUD$400
