Is .br good for MEL-DPS via SIN on QF+3K? My housemate wants to go to Bali and saw a JQ price for $600 return which he thinks is a great price but he wants to avoid flying JQ where possible.

Sugest best option would be to book as two different bookings just make sure plenty of time between connections ie 3-4 hours min to allow for any issues

I thought that EK's 777s had extra pitch on QF (and most other Western airlines), viz. 33-34" rather than 30-32".

I always thought this was in lieu of the narrower seats (and, if you believe the EK CEO, he intends to further entertain you away from the narrow seat with "more food and IFE" :)).

The seat width is likely not a huge issue as long as you're fairly fit (and your neighbour likewise).

The seats themselves might not be an issue (I am short and small), but the very narrow aisles are terrible; you tend to keep bumping into people as you walk through, and people also keep bumping into you if you have an aisle seat... it gets really annoying after the tenth bump in the first hour of the flight...

Looking for a cheap flight to CGK but it seems as per last years deals that QF41/42 is not available via Expedia cheaply the way that QF81/82 or QF35/36 are.
Shame really.

But all good found a QF84xx Emirates codeshare MEL-KUL return for ~$458 and will just grab a cash cheapie perhaps QZ for the short hop across to CGK.

For these QF84xx Emirates codeshares do QF FFs earn full SCs (pretty sure yes) and full points including status bonus etc (not sure on this).

Cheers.

The 3 am departure may discourage some travelers. I had a block of 3 seats for the flight over and 4 for the flight back with EK. It was nice to have a lie flat bed in a barely 1/3 full Y cabin!

YMMV

I had the same thing on the flight from HAM to DXB over the weekend, except that after the doors closed, one of the FAs re-seated another passenger close to me, which rendered checking EF after the flight closed and moving to the only remaining row of 3 empty seats totally useless :-(

I can only offer a sample size of one return MEL-KUL flight, but I had a shadow in both directions.

I've had probably about 10 trips on EK over the last few months, and I've always had a shadow unless the flight was over 99% full (on 2 flights it was 100% full and on 1 flight there was only 2 seats left in Y but they were way back in the cabin).

You should've sat in the middle seat.

I had the aisle seat and the other guy had the window. The empty middle seat was good to stash blankets and what not, but it really wasn't even worth leaning into it, as this exponentially increases the number of bumps one gets as people walk by through the bloody narrow aisle.

Thanks - there's direct 787 JQ sale fares for $440 return this week which is hard to argue with - he's going to go with that to limit the travel time.

can expedia.jp be used to bring JQ fares down even more? I remember reading about this somewhere...

Probably been mentioned here, but can these fares be upgraded to J, even though i am a NB and so probably not a lot of chance requesting an upgrade...

yes they can as long as you book the right Booking class.

You may request an international Flight Upgrade Award from:

There was a promo last year (permitting upgrades from 'deep' discount economy) in which I was able to request upgrades from the cheapest of these O and Q class fares.

I cancelled mine as such a short flight, however there are a reports here of other being so successful with the promotion.

I and +1 was lucky enough to have our upgrade requests come through on QF35 on the cup weekend, from O class via .BR. It was good, but for some reason (40000 points?) underwhelming.

and I believe it isn't possible to request an upgrade on EK metal using QF points (even if the flight is booked as a QF codeshare)?

The promo was at an increased cost in terms of points and applicable for flights in any class of Xmas/New Year.

In the case of Ex Singapore you can upgrade from any fare basis for cash, usually $1000 or so to J.

Just for clarity, that is 1000SGD, to PER at least.
