Qantas thanks its most loyal customers

Many people have this loyalty thing cough-up. Loyalty programs are marketing concepts that attempt to dupe customers into thinking that they are somehow special and priveledged, which is of course NONSENSE, in the long run you only get what YOU have PAID for. You are getting nothing for nothing.

I am not a Qantas shareholder and they ceased to be the National carrier 16 years ago. I have spent countless $$$ with them over the years and in return they have provided me with a generally good service but NOTHING more, they certainly have done me NO FAVORS, so perhaps we are about square.

And let's get one thing straight. QF are not thanking their 'loyal customers', they are touting for business.

I won't list my view of their many inadequacies because I think that in the world of air travel and what is a very difficult business, on balance they are okay.

BUT

What loyalty do I owe them?

PS. Get rid of the guy with the ponytail.

Yes please - get rid of the guy with the ponytail. After 15 years one can only take so much Bok Choy and other dishes he selects to destroy with his 'fusion' rubbish. Surprisingly though, the food in the F lounge SYD and MEL is excellent - nice and simple - why can't it be like that on board? lol.

Crazy ha! But I doubt it's anything like half the posters here doing status runs. Funny thing is I know at least a dozen QF WP's well and I am pretty sure none of them are members of this forum or even know of it's existence. Most of them don't care that much about all this stuff. In essence what I am getting at is that I think the members on here who actually worry about things like SC runs represent a relatively small percentage of QF's overall business.

FWIW, I think most people read their statements very carefully & ensure they plan their trips around securing their current or next tier of status. Not many people would be content to lose a status by only 10 or 20 SC!

Up until joining AFF or FT I'd never heard the term status run......but, I was doing it for a long time along with many of my colleagues, friends & family.

I've worked for a few firms that allowed flights to be booked with your FF carrier to ensure you reached status.

What I've learnt here is how to supersize your SC

I think 90 days would have given more chance to take up the offer a month is very short IMO.

You don't need to take up the offer really. It applies to flights already booked. I'd also say this offer is to reward those who fly every week, not once a year a christmas. Those domestic weekly flyers are the ones who where potentially impacted the most. Remember we are still waiting for something for those international flyers who were disrupted - assuming it isn't double SC to HKG (a fairly limited offer)

I say 75% chance there is more to come targeted at other groups.

I tend to agree, that this doesn't really favour many, only the minority that by chance were planning to fly in the lead up to Christmas, or have already booked it in. Cutting it off before Christmas is a bit "cheap". Most people would fly on leisure after this date.

Overall, this cynic in me says that this is quite a hollow offer. It's not designed to recruit more business, but only reward the "most loyal" customers that had already booked on Qantas anyway. I think on the surface people will think that it is a nice gesture, but I'd like to know how much more business are they really going to get in this 4 week period compared to the business they were already going to get.

Plus, I think it's a bit late, as VA already offered and closed their similar offer - so I went and booked through them for domestic flights but for January holidays...

How about rewarding those that have booked through the 'turmoil' period without a concern that Qantas was still going to be there!? Now that is what I'd consider loyalty!

I booked 4 J tix internationally through this period, but not for the next month, so I didn't get any benefits. So yes, I am biased and not impressed...[rant ends]

I wasn't hurt by the grounding *touchwood*

But I do have some domestic J flights East-West return coming up.

I was just wondering, if I am flying on 23rd December, (afternoon), will this count as double points? (I'm WP).

Yes. Finishes 1 minute before midnight on 23rd

You don't get that for complimentary memberships :(

Don't you? ;)

I'm actually quite happy with the bonus points offer - I have a First class trip to the UK next week so with double points it should get me about 120K points - not bad at all :-)

Not according to the T&C's (which may or may not be what actually happens under the gift offer):

# The latest join offer new paid epiQure by Qantas Frequent Flyer members will receive is 1 complimentary bottle of 2005 Jacob’s Creek 35th Anniversary Pathaway Shiraz, valued at $130. Limit of one gift per new member. Gift is not available for complimentary joins.

I do agree here, what would be nice is if my booking, which I made on the day the planes started flying again was rewarded with double SC's not just flights I book from here on in... Although QF could argue that they already had my business because I had already made a booking...

Don't you? ;)

Well I didn't. I'm interested to know how others may have managed to??

I dipped out on the gift - I was on the last Transpac (QF7) out of SYD on the Saturday and was on the first Scheduled QF8 back on the 31st.

Not to say I didn't have a worry or six that weekend.

Well that's just rubbish. Typical inconsistency.

Perhaps it is different because of how QF is offering it? personally without the gift bottle it isn't worth much, and F lounge pass or valet etc would be more useful..

Conversely, the qantas offer rewards those who booked with qantas and didn't take advantage of the DJ offer.

I dont think that is the case as it asked for my delivery address (and mentioned the bottle)

I also have an email that seems to say they've posted something to me.

Same. Just joined. Free as promised and told me that I had a gift bottle so needed a delivery address. These tastings under events look good.

The events look good. I'm seriously tempted by the Sydney one next week.

Hi Simongr,

You did not receive an email as you have 'opted out' from receiving 'Frequent Flyer exclusive offers.' This is usually the way to find out about bonus points and status credits so perhaps log-in to your account on qantas.com and update this. Feel free to pass this tip onto any other members who are Silver or above that did not receive an email yesterday.

As a Platinum you are eligible for the Double Bonus Points offer. ;)

Cheers,
Red Roo

Thanks Trev :)

Would this explain why I don't get double SC promos as well or would that sort of promo be emailed irrespective of opting in?

On the topic of loyalty we have to also consider loyalty to the program as much as loyalty to the airline. If I fly CX to JED it is because of my loyalty to the QFF program rather than my love of CX. QFF earn money when I fly CX and credit to QFF and based on 2500 SCs last year I am pretty loyal to the QFF program...

Well I didn't. I'm interested to know how others may have managed to??

I thought no dice with this originally, when I read the T&Cs which stated 'not available with complimentary memberships', but I suspect (hope) the e-mail may override this:

"And because you may have been directly impacted during the recent disruptions, we would like to offer you a 12 month complimentary membership to epiQure by Qantas Frequent Flyer~ - our online community exclusive to Qantas Frequent Flyers offering a wealth of wine, food and rewards. To activate your complimentary membership~~, visit epiqure.com.au and login with your Qantas Frequent Flyer number. Simply by accepting the terms and conditions of membership and by activating your membership you'll receive a complimentary gift of fine wine=. It's our welcome gift to you and a taste of things to come. Please ensure Your Profile is updated with an Australian delivery address so we are able to send you your wine".

It acknowledges that it is a complimentary offer, and in the same paragraph specifically refers to the complimentary wine gift.

The '=' refers to: "= Limit of one complimentary joining gift per new member. You must be 18 years or older and have an Australian delivery address. The gift is not transferable or exchangeable and cannot be taken as cash. For details visit epiqure.com.au."

As with nlagalle, I was asked to provide a delivery option.

Did you get yours as part of that QF FF lunch? Perhaps that is the difference in this case?

Anyway, here's hoping! :)
