Qantas to Close First Class Lounge in Singapore

CX is a great airline....prefer them to QF and all other OW partners.
Really? Nowhere near a great airline. They are OK but not in economy. Just my opinion.

yet Melbourne as of April next year has more international direct destinations than we have now! SIN, HKG, LAX, DXB, AKL, WLG. It's an extra 7 international 747s a week for us. seems to be more capacity!
And do you think that schedule is guaranteed? Qantas announces something that is extremely important to a lot of people and 2 weeks later renounces the decision.

I have flights booked through to mid-next year so will be keeping an eye on further announcements. In my opinion the current Qantas management is incompetent at best and cannot be trusted.

Well so when you are wrong this is your reply ? We are getting more flights as the schedule stands.

It seems you hate qantas management, dont trust them.. none of the other carriers are good enough... you do nothing but highlight negative things on this forum, will you ever be happy ?

I have just seen the revised schedule for SIN. What is so positive about it?

Or perhaps I should just shut up and let the experts decide everything for me....

I am now starting to worry about my AAdvantage miles I bought recently. Enough for 2 business class returns to SE Asia but may not get a chance to use them at the rate Qantas is dropping mainline flights....
I think you are jumping to conclusions. While the flights to LHR are re-routing away from Asia, QF retains many flights to SIN from BNE, SYD, MEL, ADL and PER. While I understand you believe they may all become Jetstar flights soon, I do not hold that same belief. Also note that those AAdvantage miles will soon be able to be used MH flights via KUL. So overall there may be more options available next year.

Perhaps highlighting the negatives is necessary to overcome the rose coloured glasses that the fanbois seem to wear.

I respect both your knowledge and your opinion and I hope you are right.

I was actually hoping to use those AAdvantage miles on Qantas A380 or 747 into Asia which may not be possible soon. Not sure what MH will have to offer and how it will compare to the current Qantas offering.

Up until 2-3 weeks ago people thought there was going to be a refurbished First Class lounge in SIN possibly the equivalent of the SYD/MEL First Lounges. Boy were they wrong....

QF is operating A380 to HKG and 747 will remain at least for a while SYD-SIN. MH has taken delivery of their first A380s so that may open up some opportunities SYD-KUL (not sure of their initial routing plans). My experiences with MH (all short-haul in Asia) have been good. Their F lounge at KUL is very nice and never seen it crowded. Way better than SIN and on a par with HKG in my opinion. KUL is generally quite an efficient airport with similar process to SIN with shared departure/arrivals areas and security screening at the gate.

Safe to assume that the wasted costs of this project will be booked to the "loss making" QFi?

I'm not a fanboy, but constant negativity from some people removes my enjoyment of this forum. Especially when they aren't looking at the facts

(e.g. 7 jumbo jets per week more international capacity ex-MEL than they currently have).

Facts? What facts? Things promised are changing every day.

I am sorry if my negativity on these changes removes your enjoyment of the forum.

The facts are the schedules as they stand... and right now I have more options on Qantas Intl out of Melbourne with these changes.

A colleague emailed BA through their website recently to enquire about the F lounge in Singapore. She mentioned a media report that QF was abandoning the lounge refurbishment and sought any information they could provide on BA's plans. This was the response she received within 72 hours:

Thank you for your enquiry. Qantas web site shows that the first class lounge will be completed by the turn of the year. Opening hours will be inline with flight arrival and departure times. Should you require any further information please contact Qantas.

There's a few things in that, from my perspective. First and most obvious is there's no acknowledgement or otherwise of what we've heard about QF's decision to discontinue with the refurb. I also found it interesting that there was no mention of BA's involvement with the lounge, even though it's currently a joint lounge. There's also the bit about opening times being in line with "arrival" times also.

I'm probably reading too much into it but ultimately BA didn't acknowledge anything.

With the lounges in Singapore and Bangkok, even though they were 'joint' Singapore was/is run by Qantas and Bangkok by BA. Though your response from BA was a bit poor, by now you would have thought they were aware of Qantas' plan to close the first lounge and what alternatives they were looking at to cater for their own passengers.

I think this is the correct statement, I have regular (bi monhtly) contact with BA via their website and unless you are lucky you get the standard Q&A reply from them, they know little more than is on their website and unless its a standard question answer to a range of questions - Customer Service is somewhere in Srilanka I believe, I have found its a long way from Suffock UK in time and distance.

Does anyone have a more definitive date for the new Business lounge in SIN to be opened? I am hopeful that its there by the 13[SUP]th[/SUP] Dec.
All I have heard so far is “December” and “end of the year”:-|

Edit: I guess a F lounge wont be availabel then....

Is there any QF statement about this or just the article in AusBT?

"A Qantas spokeswoman confirmed the decision to Australian Business Traveller" - that's the full reference in relation to Qantas.

However there may be other behind the scenes indications the author may have become aware of as: "... plans have now been scrapped and Qantas is now working through the exact size and location of the new business lounge."

Still nothing official on this, right?

Has anyone seen any other evidence either way, like information brochures removed from the SIN lounges or anything from BA?

A little OT, but curiously the website now shows the First Class Lounge as open from 06:30 to 09:30 and 15:00 to 23:30 (like it used to be before QF32 was discontinued). This is new, as it was only 15:00 to 23:30. Or is this just a mistake?
