QANTAS to launch their own credit card in tie-up with Citibank

Same Call Centre. I posted further up-thread that when I rang Qantas Money, the agent answered 'Virgin Money'. They just seem to lose track of things. It's all Citibank.

Thanks for the clarification, I could not work out why Virgin Money would be calling me, my first thought was that my information had been shared, so I'm glad that's not the case.

I think QF may be interested in this feedback. Does RedRoo still exist?

Pretty poor that their partner is basically answering with their major domestic competitors name.

If there are 2 of us at least on this very thread who have experienced that, I suspect that there are many others.
Poor form on behalf of Citi who should at least let their staff know which card/airline they are servicing.

POR: As posted earlier I was Prestige holder and was approved for Qantas Premier with 6K limit - no change whatsoever to Prestige limit - clearly YMMV.

I thought initially I would go for this but once going thru the fine print , I think I'll wait for a better bonus or zero annual fee for first year to arrive.
I liked the idea of a 20% reduction of a partner airfare until I read it was up to 20% and applied to domestic fares only.( I am planning a business class fare for both of us to JFK in october )
The travel insurance does not cover pre existing illnesses.
Hard to believe but the free lounge passes do not include the brilliant Tom Bradley lounge in LAX!
I like the idea of using points for international awards but lately I have had so many problems getting onto QF metal at all - shunted to CX or similar - though their taxes and fees are less than the Irishmans!
Add on the problems dealing with Citibank call centres, I'll give it a month to see if Qantas sweetens the offer.

Two phone calls from Qantas Money (Aka S h i t tibank) about my application this morning. Felt like having root canal on all my teeth (all at once) without any local anaesthetic!

I had numerous useless calls from Citi on Thursday and Friday but received approval today.
Will be using this for all non-Amex allowed Domestic spend.

None of the bundled ones (that I am aware of anyway) do. This is hardly unusual. On the up side the QF one does include (some) domestic cover, which many others only cover international.

I cancelled my Citi Plat card last week, changed all direct debits etc, paid out the balance owing after twice questioning amount CSA told me. Three phone calls later it is cancelled but they've now determined (I'm not sure how) that they owe me $3.17 for which they are sending a cheque! When asked why I was cancelling (program changes etc) I told them I was going to apply for the QM Premier and perhaps they could just 'fast track' the application and move me across - oh, no, no, no, we can't do that.

Despite my inner voice telling me 'don't, don't, don't', the lure of the sign on bonus had me lodge the application and all docs seemed to have uploaded successfully (according to the website) but on Sat night received a message from QM asking me to call. Phoned on Sunday only to be told I'd have to phone on Tuesday (due to QB hol) and during business hours. Phoned this morning and apparently they only received one of the document files so I sent through the other two, was then told they would have to contact my employer to verify my income. Half an hour later I receive a call from QM with a rep from work HR dept on the line also - she required a confirmation email approving disclosure of my pay info to QM - which was all done while I was still on the phone and the conversation ended. 10 mins later, another phone call - I listed my total income of which my 'real job' represents 30% and of course QM tried to verify the total income with my employer and HR said that was not correct. When I advised the source of my other income they said they couldn't accept that - strange, as the ATO certainly does and I pay tax on it. I also advised that I had listed the same income stream when I applied for the Citi Platinum and it was accepted. Another two phone calls followed shortly asking for copy of the documents that did upload (??) advising that app was sent to approvals team and I would be advised in three or four days of the outcome.

I stopped and resumed the QM application a couple of times (inner voice was shouting at me) and in the between time applied for Westpac Black QF card for which I have received a tentative approval based on income verification.

I currently use Woolworths Insurance which does cover me for my pre existing conditions .
I was saying that if i took up the card without such cover , I would need to pay extra or additional cover may not be available .
Hence, the insurance is no use to me - but you are right in as much as other CC policies are just as bad.
I am basically disappointed that Qantas had a chance to offer a real alternative to other CCs but decided just to be a boring copy!

Looks what turned up today...

For a reference point, back up thread I mentioned I got the email saying 3-5 days for card delivery. That was on Thursday so 3 business days it is to Brisbane inner suburbs. Now to pay my son's school fees...

Thanks for the data point. The PIN isn't in a separate letter is it?

I got that email informing me it had been sent on Saturday so I might still have a day or two wait. :( I missed the car service today which I'd hoped to have put on it.

Nope - you can login once you have the card and select a pin. Not sure if it is worth mentioning, but when you jump through the activation hoops, if you get a error saying 'CVC' not recognised, I clicked on the 'contact us' link, then went back to the cvc activation page, re-entered same details and it worked the second time...

LOL gotta love Citibank...
They also didn't recognise the address of the largest employer in the Illawarra...

Earning status credits from any activity other than flying makes no sense.

But if you throw status credits into the mix of a credit card, suddenly status is at least partly achieved when not flying.
Then it's game over, as far as I'm concerned. Status credits should be purely and simply earned by

Qantas won't offer frequent flyer status credits at supermarkets - Australian Business Traveller

DavidFlynn said:
"From our perspective we think it's not appropriate to link status credits with everyday spend such as supermarkets," Grant expands, with clear reference to challenger Virgin Australia's partnership with Coles Flybuys which allows Velocity Frequent Flyer members to pick up 120 status credits each year at the checkout.

"For us, status credits will always be in some way linked to flying and that will protect and recognise our tiered flyers in the program."

Except for the targeted Macquarie/Westpac trial.

DavidFlynn said:
Does Grant then see a potential for status credits to be earned when booking a flight with the new Qantas Premier credit card?

"I'm not going to commit to what any future campaigns might look like," she parries, "but status credits will always be associated with flights and they will always be linked to loyalty to Qantas."

After one week I got a call from citi qf asking the same details which I had already filled in on the form. I asked during the conversation if there was an issue with the form as I have already filled in these details. I was told no we have everything here we need and the call ended. I thought it all a bit strange.
Another call soon after asking for payslips, again I said I uploaded these. The guy on the phone said yes you have and said please email them through.

Emailed the docs and a little while later I got an sms saying approved.

My experience with this was just to push the fact everything they are asking is on the form already and the call ended quickly.

Anyone else having trouble starting an application?
Have tried to use the Qantas Money link earlier in thread and been advised 'Qantas Money unavailable..try again later' for about 2 days....

Approved on Wednesday morning, 7th June. Checked the mail yesterday, but nothing. Card arrived today (14th June) in Sydney metro, so within the 3-5 day timeframe.
