Thanks. I spent a couple of hours stuffing around on the Emirates website and couldn't find a check in opening time for Sydney. I'm now spending ages searching for QF J lounge access rules as well. That AKL EK lounge looks good.

EK lounge at AKL is good, tends to get very busy 90-120 mins out from the Melb and Syd flights, I fly into BNE which departs last, get there early if u want a seat or a table.

Cheers

Was this a breakfast flight? What was the meal like?
Yep.
Below is the breaky from my seat in Y. (~March 2015)

In answer to my own question.
The shared EK F and J lounge is fantastic (although the internet is cough) and the QF J lounge is not worth visiting at all. I've included video of both in my EK F TR.

I'm just wondering why you didn't visit the QF F cupboard instead of the J lounge...

On the left, instead of turning to the right
I thought I did turn left. So you go up the escalators (NZ lounge is on the extreme left, QF straight ahead, and EK lounges on the right) and then into the QF section, and I was directed towards the left through some doors (into a cupboard). :)

Yep, left after reception.

It's a bit like BNE international. It's the style of the QF lounges around the turn of the century.

The catering in the first 'cupboard' is generally much better than the J lounge ... also they do have Champagne.

TBH, the f&b has improved markedly in the QF lounge sunce 2013 ...

That's probably it then. Did it have champagne or sparkling? Easiest way to tell.

If you went left and through extra doors then you were in the F lounge. Its not a big space...

Yes, but the QF F Cupboard lounge has a fridge full of ice cream! Yum!
