Yep.
Below is the breaky from my seat in Y. (~March 2015)

I was served lunch on QF121 SYD-ZQN in Y (~9.30am departure) back in May:

Hmmm I'm fairy sure that my photo was from QF121 on March 14th 2015 (that photo is in my New Zealand album). I wonder why you got lunch and I got breaky?

Not sure. I'm not doubting you, just thought it was strange as I definitely got lunch on that flight.

Interestingly it is showing as a "breakfast" flight again now.

Daylight saving ends in April so that's possibly the reason?

My upcoming flight in November is a breakfast flight. Was considering putting in an upgrade request but think I'll save the points now.

You have to face the QF AKL J lounge reception desk.
The F lounge is then on left of J reception desk.
Frosted glass door inside the first set of doors up the escalators.

I have to say for a Y lunch that meal looks fresh and tasty. Is it duck!?

I took one of the T/T sale J fare offers up recently so I'll be headed over to WLG on I think dinner flights and despite it being modest, I'm still looking forward to it!

Are there any "you can't go in the F lounge x hours before your flight" type rules? The flight is at 1755, but I was thinking of doing an afternoon's work in the lounge while leisurely exploring the food & beverage menu. I've never been to the SYD F lounge so looking forward to it!!

I agree, that meal looks very presentable for Y. I've yet to be disappointed by QF's catering.

I don't think so... After all isn't QF still offering all-day check-in at SYD?

Given the vagaries of connecting flights I have sometimes had 6 hours in the F lounge in Sydney and Melbourne. Never been a problem - though the staff may be a little surprised at times.

It was indeed a duck salad and it was delicious.

They have been serving an equally delicious chicken salad on my Trans-Tasman Y flights this month.

The reception staff will note your flight and have always said "You're rather early." and welcomed me in. I was always connecting from a domestic flight that either was overly generous with connection time or later flights would have been a rush, so that was the reason why.
If you are spending that much time in the lounge ask for access to one of their business suites so you can work. Also see if you can get a spa treatment.
I will say after last night's visit to the SYD T1 Qantas Club after a 7 year absence, I now know why people rave about the EK lounge. In fact if I was travelling alone, not with the 4 yea old Little Miss Altair, I would have tried to go to the EK lounge. If travelling with the family I am now seriously considering taking NZ as their lounge offerings are much better or if QF are $50 NZD cheaper each way I will just forego the QP and use the savings for a meal at the airport restaurants.

The catering in the first 'cupboard' is generally much better than the J lounge ... also they do have Champagne.

TBH, the f&b has improved markedly in the QF lounge sunce 2013 ...

WOW really? if that's the case it must have been dire back then.

I was there earlier this year during the afternoon prior to a 1700ish AKL-MEL QF flight (yes, I flew QF J and not on the EK flight.. shock!). anyway as I've posted before the offering was pretty sad IMHO.

Still everyone's tastes/expectations vary and it may well have been I arrived after "lunch" time (prob around 1430ish) so perhaps there was better stuff out earlier.

I don't even recall the fridge of ice cream, or maybe I felt guilty about my diet that day :D

I flew trans-Tasman Business class today, on QF126 AKL-BNE. The main impression I took away was that the soft product makes up for a fairly average hard product to make for an enjoyable overall experience.

The CSM Rebecca looked after the full J cabin very well. We were offered a choice of water, juice or champagne before take-off, and the drinks kept coming throughout the flight. Despite the 3.55pm departure, proper champagne was available - so I'm not sure what the "departures after 6pm only" thing is about.

For a starter we were offered a tasty potato & leek soup with a choice of bread:

There were three main course options: a spicy chicken dish, beef noodle salad or a salmon dish, which I chose:

The seat is basically just a domestic-style recliner seat, so not great for sleeping in. But otherwise, it's perfectly comfortable, the legroom is good and being a day flight I didn't want to sleep anyway, so I really can't complain.

The service from the crew was very friendly and I felt we were looked after well. Overall an enjoyable flight.

Would I pay ~$1,000 for a full-price J ticket? No. But I would do it again on a sale fare or points redemption.

I thought the reference to 6pm was only for amenity kits, not champagne. Pretty sure I've been offered champagne every TT flight of late, irrespective of time. Amenity kits have been hit and miss no matter the time.

glad you enjoyed the flight. QF J trans-Tasman is a consistently top quality soft product, in my view.
