Qantas Trans-Tasman Business Class

I thought the reference to 6pm was only for amenity kits, not champagne. Pretty sure I've been offered champagne every TT flight of late, irrespective of time. Amenity kits have been hit and miss no matter the time.

glad you enjoyed the flight. QF J trans-Tasman is a consistently top quality soft product, in my view.

Thats right champagne is available on all TT flights

Having just done a J on EK (QF codeshare) (SYD-CHC) and QF back - the food and drink is by far superior on QF. In fact the EK meal was so bad (and smelt disgusting) I sent it back advising them it would have to be one of the worst J meals I have ever been served. Everything else was just tough, unsuitable or soggy. The crew were next to useless to know what to do about it other than "I'm sorry to hear that".

The QF meals and drinks were excellent along with the cabin crew. Sometimes it seems smaller is better!

I'd have to agree the QF J T.T. soft product surprised me to be very good and better than EK food wise, though EK wins (obviously) on seat and I think the bevs are better but the food and service far more personal on QF (sorry Jetconnect :) ). EK F is something else of course, but the J produce is not that horrible unless you just want to curl up in a ball and sleep for a couple of hours, in which case you'd want the EK seat.

Regarding food in the QF F cupboard, obviously it's well below the EK offerings in my view, but nonetheless I've been reasonably impressed with some of the offerings of late - really nice cheeses and cold cuts one afternoon, quite inventive eggs Benedict style muffins and breads for breakfast. Low expectations but they were exceeded!

I've got an upcoming QF J flight from AKL to SYD and I'm curious to know, will I have access to the EK lounge at AKL?
This would suggest not: Lounge Locations | New Zealand | Auckland International Airport | International Business
But that above link also suggests that I shouldn't have got access to the EK lounge when I flew QF8763 (EK A380 in First) because my ticket was on a QF flight number, but I did.
Now I did check-in at the EK desk so it did look like an EK boarding pass even though I paid QF for the ticket.

Officially yes, although likely not in practice.

As long as the EK lounge is open you should be able to enter. I've never been denied access when flying purely QF on a QF ticket, in J or Y (though my status as Platinum or P1 may be a factor?).

According to QF's website (link two posts back), P1 will get you in as long as the next flight is with QF, JQ, EK or OW.

I'm connecting with Qantas and since my first flight is with EK, I'm hoping to check-in with them (for both flights) so that my second QF flight is printed on an EK-looking boarding pass so hopefully they won't look too close? :)

Actually I've just calculated that my flight into AKL will push me over into Status Gold (which gets access to the EK lounge) although I fear the computers won't be updated showing my newly achieved status.

Compared to QF SYD int J MEL is indeed a let down.
And if you don't ask it or know, you will never find the secretive entrance to the QF int MEL F lounge.
No visible signs to the F lounge after that first arrow showing QF MEL F and J lounge.
Immi and int security frosed sliding doors at MEL still opens at 5.25am. QF int J lounge opens at the moment at 6.15am.

We were denied entry to the EK lounge in AKL flying QF J (and we're both SG). Apparently it was "busy" (it was deserted) and the like to save space for those on EK flights....

Same sentiment I heard from a couple who tried the MEL EK J/F lounge.
They were moved back to the QF MEL J lounge.
The J lounge was still not open at 6am, they thought to try the EK but came back to QF J.
Couldn't get in they said.

Hmmm... QF's website clearly says the following for Gold Frequent Flyers:
http://www.qantas.com.au/travel/air...ional/international-business-lounge/global/en
Next onward flight that day must be on a Qantas^, Emirates^, Jetstar Airlines+ oroneworld operated and marketed flight.#
One guest allowed and must be travelling with the member on the same flight.
So you should have been let in.

Correct. However when they claim "at capacity" there's little you can do as it becomes a "he said, she said" exercise.

On ipod...
The couple in my reply above were told that if a QF lounge was available, they were to use the QF lounge, that couple were told.
Maybe EK staff are told to use all available excuses to deny non really high up top status pax.
