Qantas Trans-Tasman Business Class

Oh, I stand corrected.

Only because I can't find anywhere that lists the actually EK lounge rules for QF class of travel access. Can find it for Qantas club members and status levels but not for class of travel.

According to the QF website:
[h=3]Access to more lounges across the world[/h] Qantas Frequent Flyers as well as travellers in premium cabins have access to Emirates and Qantas Lounges.
This includes access to Emirates' First Class and Business Class Lounges in Concourse A in Dubai Terminal 3 and Qantas' award-winning First Lounges in Sydney and Melbourne, as well as Qantas and Emirates Lounges in Australia, Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.

So we had access but when they played the capacity card we were kinda stuffed.

Note that New Zealand is not mentioned, I was told this was because with 3 A380 leaving around the same time they do not wish QFF members to access the lounge that is well known for overcrowding in the 90 minutes before the departures.

No but it is also not excluded. And the lounge was empty and we were only 30 minutes out from boarding so would have left before it became crowded. The quote above says "includes..." but doenst mean it lists all lounges.

Mrs PG and I did a nice run Melb Syd Akl Melb recently. Mel/Syd usual domestic economy then a nice few hours in the F lounge in Sydney. (Mrs had the free massage which was well appreciated!!). QF J to AKL was excellent. Good service Neil Perry 3 course dinner and ample wine. A good few days in AKL at the Hilton (trip to Devonport by ferry for the day is well recommended). We experienced Emirates First AKL to Mel. EK lounge not overly crowed and in fact the QF J and F were pretty empty. With the 1 2 1 seat configuration they had us not aligned which was a surprise but on board fixed that up. The seats/suites are fantastic and the bar at the back a nice excursion to make. Service prompt if not a bit impersonal. Overall a really good experience. I'm interested in others impressions??

Sounds they way to do it - QF First before the flight over and EK on the way back ... god one!

Is the 6pm rule for amenity kits a hard one? Do they ever have some squirrelled away and available on request on mid afternoon flights back?

I haven't ever seen them handed out but you can but ask!
I was offered slippers once. When I asked why, they said they'd been loaded so they figured they should hand them out

I cheekily tried on the flight to NZ to no luck but I will perhaps try to be a bit more charming on the way home! ;-)

Being somewhat of a collector, and (my partner more the hoarder of paraphernalia )

I/we have always found that it doesn't really matter what time of day or trip direction etc

It's never hurts to ask, all depends on the FA or CSM.

Best approach is to build a short (and non-interrupting of their current duties) amiable relationship of banter and goodwill.
At worst, your glass will always be topped off ;-)

I agree it's mainly down to the CSM and J cabin attendant. The good ones are active right up to safety demo - handing out kits, immigration cards etc. I've done a stack of TT flights. The 6pm rule doesn't hold much to me. I've had an equal number of post 6pm flights with no kit; and pre-6pm flights with a kit.

They were proactively handed out on a 0720 departure AKL-SYD on my last QF TT which was a nice surprise.

4/4 flights in the past weeks and no luck (despite my nicest smile). In fairness to what the 'rules' say, they should have been only available on tonight's flight. But they weren't. :-x

I recently flew MEL-AKL return on QF155 & 156, departing 1800 and 1930 respectively; got amenity kits both ways.

How weird: I was on QF156 last night and no dice. The FA seemed to think that they were never available on this sector.

Consistently inconsistent is a perfect way of putting it.

And I know the kits are not anything particularly impressive, but they are both useful (especially on a late night flight) and part of the advertised qantas experience.
