Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

Qf145 today. Booked basement Y, 8pm last night randomly checked app and saw my upgrade had been successful.. so 2D here I come. No upgrade available or requested.

First time ever being upgraded. Wonder if it is a result of a different flight booking made 2 days ago?

And bonus points for seeking and receiving a spa spot 👍

Successful Y -> J upgrade at T-60 on QF67 SYD-BLR as a WP.

First time to India and was wondering how I would go with the upgrade given no PE. Looks like quite bit of availability with 9 J seats still not selected. Economy also looked quite open with lots of empty rows of 4 before I was upgraded.

No luck on QF25 from Y to J as WP last night. At least economy was not full and I had an empty seat next to me (bulkhead row). I also noticed that the upgrade request on the return QF60 on 4th august seems to have dropped off from App and I can't see the request on the website (or even re-make it). Anyone else seeing their upgrade requests dissapear for future bookings?

Longtime lurker first time poster. WP, flying QF1 Monday 29 July. Sale premium economy, put in request for J upgrade about 6mo+ ago. Wife silver. Looks like good availability in F& J right now…. Something I don’t understand is how/why trying to upgrade 2 people affects chances? Any insights haven’t seen much written about it…

Welcome to posting.

First, if your wife is on the same booking, and you put in the request, your WP status will apply to both. If Wife is on a separate booking, that is very different.

You didn't specify if QF1 was SYD-SIN or SYD-LHR, but yes it looks pretty good at this point.

The more passgeners looking to uograde in a booking, the harder it can be to satisfy with available seats of course.

However, in this case, with paid PE seats, you have a leg up over those in Y due to that alone.

Plus, it is a cascade effect, if QF free two seats in PE via uograde, then those coukd go to Y pax upgrading - if J fills. Same with upgrading J to F can open those seats.

It certainly looks promising in this case - but of course the WP upgrade window will not open til 72 hours prior so you won't get a better idea til then - and there are no guarantees.

Enjoy your trip.

Appreciate that Richard! Was very confused about the comments re two people putting you at a disadvantage. Will let the thread know how we go!

@Mswombat I have upgrades in for my partner and I on that same flight and date and it is looking very good for both you and me I would posit, especially putting them in from PE seats. 16 spare J as of this morning....short of disaster we should be sweet!?

I magically made P1 this year (don't ask me how) so hopefully I hear something today being a week out?

I don't want to jinx it! Let me know when you do :) ... good luck!

@Mswombat Speak of the devil, just got the notification of successful upgrade. Interestingly, there are 20+ seats we could choose from on the seating allocation in J for the 29th. Now some of that could be just people not having chosen seats as yet, but it's looking good.

You're in PE already and Plat, so I am guessing you and your wife will literally be next! Let me know how you go, debriefing and coughtails in-flight mate. 🤣🤣

In what amounts to one of the biggest teases of my days flying…

Upgrade from Flex to Business confirmed on QF94 LAX to MEL for Thursday 25/7/24, points taken, happy days

Less than an hour later QF94 was cancelled, and I was put on QF12 (the one leaving on 24/7/24 which has been delayed until 25/7/24, with no ability to request an upgrade and a full economy cabin to boot. I was put on a later AA flight (which means instead of what would have been my first time in the first class lounge I have a 2:15 connection in LAX. (It also has my itinerary out of sequence, so fully expecting to arrive at the airport and have to deal with some funky ticketing/baggage issue)

Lady on the phone was incompetent and ended up telling me I had to fly the itinerary before calling to recoup the points.

Really sour way to end my holiday

You can still use QF Flounge at LAX if getting in on status with the AA flight. Yes, it's a short walk from T4 but easily doable (I literally walked the path last week)

I’m just whinging a bit, as a 6’3 bloke I was hoping for that lie flat seat rather than shoulder to shoulder in economy.

First world problem, but yeah, having the confirmed upgrade for an hour was just a tease.

Yes, that is really frustrating for sure I agree. I'm sorry this happened.
