Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Y+ to J x 2 success on QF18 JFK-LAX and QF16 LAX-BNE on Thursday (Sep 17). Had never flown QF J and it was a great experience. Forever spoiled now...

Try flying F and going back to J... I have my first long haul J next week in over two years - this is after the last 13 consecutive segments in F :(

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

About to put in some optimistic upgrade requests for my partner and I on some flights to and from the USA in December/January - we are both Bronze.

I notice when requesting the upgrade to business there is an option to upgrade to Premium Economy if Business is declined. Does anyone have any experience with this? I am probably being over cynical but would Qantas decline a business upgrade and put you in PE so that they can put someone else who hasn't opted for the fallback into J?

Upgrades are processed by highest cabin first - to F, J, then PE. The only reason you'd get PE is if your J upgrade is unsuccessful (which, being bronze is likely).

Thanks for clarifying - request is in. Finders crossed - I have gotten lucky before!

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Hey guys, in regards to domestic if it was requested but not given straight away when do these upgrades usually clear? Is it a couple of days or hours? Pain in the cough waiting much rather had ASA's but anyways!

Also note there's a known bug that sometimes U avail can exist, but an upgrade request online not go through for some reason (has happened to me).. calling gets this resolved.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Yeah was no Classic awards and couldnt book via AA Miles etc and didn't show any availability on EF. It's school holidays and booked several months ago and it just appears as though the entire 2 weeks was blocked out....very weird as can get in on either side of school holidays but no Brissy flights had any U during the period.

Fly PER-BNE next Wednesday so fingers crossed, haven't flown in Y for a while trans con so not prepared for it lol

Rang up to try and pay for it and it was going to be $4200 on top of what we already paid.......no thanks lol

Though flight is: J9 C9 D0 I0 Y9 B0 H0 K0 M0 L0 G0

So might be good for a points upgrade if Y is fairly full?

I had a requested domestic upgrade for 2 people ADL to PER come though roughly 24hrs prior. Original request was made a month in advance.

All, can we please keep the discussion to other threads. This thread is purely for reporting successful upgrades after they have happened. The point being that other readers can get a feel for their chances by scanning over the success stories. This will not work if the thread is cluttered up with discussion. TIA.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Upgrades from Y+ to J successful on both QF127 and QF128 (SYD-HKG, HKG-SYD) for 4 of us. My partner and I were taking her parents to Hong Kong for their 80th birthdays and this was the first time either of them had flown J. Very very grateful to QF!!!!

Sounds like a great trip coming up! Don't forget to do your seat allocation in J asap in order to have the best chance of getting your preferred seating. You can also select everyone's meal preferences using the Q-eat selection option via manage my booking.

Not sure if you've been and gone but in case you haven't the following link has some suggestions on what to do in HK.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Upgrade J -> F on QF 11 tomorrow confirmed at T-30. My first time in F!

I might actually die of excitement.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Upgraded on the way home from DFW as well.
Was expecting this as J9 D7, but it only came through 24 hours before which surprised me.
J seemed mostly full in the end, and curiously there were about 5 upgrades to F called in the lounge.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

48 hrs before my C2C flight I received confirmation of J points upgrade for PER-SYD on the long weekend this Friday (in school holidays). Quite surprised as the loading are, understandably, pretty full.

I had my choice of flights when booking and guessed at loadings to maximise the chance of an upgrade, but then waited weeks for confirmation. I just wish QF could confirm immediately just like my VA flight (the reverse sector) which I booked at the same time.

What a difference and contrast between the two.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

For what its worth:

Status NB successful Y - J for two persons Oct 2nd MEL - ADL

Also previously NB successful Y - J for one Aug 12th QF9 MEL - LHR

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

QF 10 J-F confirmed at T 30
Wasn't very hopeful as flight showing F2 J7 a couple of days ago. Now zeroed out and snagged 3A :)

That's promising for me in a couple of weeks to know that they do happen. I'm same flight, same QF status, Same upgrade request. Fingers crossed

I'm watching EF and its still showing about 8 F seats still avail.
