Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Upstairs is good, but the nose is pretty cool too and definitely something you should tick off the list, IMO.

I prefer the nose too it's more cosy than upstairs - the refurb layout makes its very open upstairs and I like a little more privacy. The CX herringbone layout upstairs on the 747 was my fav format on these birds.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Thanks for the tips. Just changed my seat to 3E. Will see how I find the nose.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Despite my wife and I both falling back to Gold this year we have had upgrades from Y+ to J on QF9 last month and QF10 today. Both came through at T-28. Still feeling the Qantas love.

The nose was great. Had a shadow next to me.

My perfect upgrade record ended with a failed upgrade request for the flight home. Disappointed, but I can try to use the points another time. I got a shadow though which is something.

Was this an upgrade request ex HKG?

if so, it's becoming apparent that flights ex HKG are becoming very challenging to upgrade, with Many reported instances of rejected upgrade requests coming through ex HKG.

I've never failed ex-HKG from either Y or Y+ to J on QF98, 128 and 30.

Yes. This was my first trip to HKG and naturally with the flight ex-HKG being overnight I wanted that upgrade more than the one I got going over.

My only failed upgrade has come as a WP, so my limited experience hasn't shown much, if any benefit from being a WP when it comes to upgrades, so far. I've had a better success rate as PS and SG. Hearing 60 hours out for going over was great, but waiting till the last minute in hopes of an upgrade only to have those hopes dashed wasn't a good experience.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Upgrade from Y>J for QF81 SYD-SIN tomorrow confirmed by the good Altea-bots at Qantas around T-23 & a half. Fairly full flight in general, unlike the later QF5 which will go out very light. Low J/C and zero D/I for a while leading up, so had almost relegated myself to the fact I could be in Y for the first time in about 9 months! Not yet! :D

Cheers,
Matt.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Dairyfloss what was the upgrade mode?

Classic with Points? or Bid now with $

Can you indicate the quantum of $ if so

This thread concerns classic (points) upgrades only. There is a separate thread for Bid Now upgrades.

Yes - it's only ever the classic upgrade awards that I attempt... this one puts me at 92.3% success with those as a QFF WP

Cheers,
Matt.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

What ticket do you buy?

Generally, for Singapore, I buy a cheaper Economy Flex (H), but on this outbound segment the cost of H (or maybe it was B) was too high and so I bought Economy Saver (S). I'll be inbound in Flex (H)

Cheers,
Matt.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Hi team, two questions.

1) I'm flying BNE --> NRT on 21/11/16 w/ QF. I'm silver flying in Y, hoping for J upgrade (classic reward upgrade submitted during booking months ago). I understand this is a "how long is a piece of string" type question, but can anyone comment roughly on the chances of receiving a points upgrade? I imagine it being a Monday would reduce my chances somewhat, although flying last year at a similar time to USA I was upgraded to J as bronze.

2) If I'm not successful in my upgrade request, is there someone that can guest me into the Brisbane QF lounge at the international airport :D

Thanks.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

My 100% upgrade from J to F on 8 occasions has just come to an end. No upgrade to F on QF94 tonight.
Applied for the upgrade back in Aug when flights were booked. Still 2 empty seats showing up until 3 hours ago.
What the hell QF!
Mrs Dmac6345 not looking forward to grumpy Mr Dmac tomorrow morning after 15 hours in J

You may need to lodge your details in this thread in case your upgrade doesn't come through...http://www.australianfrequentflyer....-2016/lounge-meets-november-2016-a-71566.html

Friends, should I be concerned by this?

I'm of course happy if my upgrade only takes -1 point, but it looks rather odd.

Advice?

Yes you should be worried. This is exactly what my upgrade last night showed on my booking and it never came through. It was the first time my J to F upgrade didn't work. The whole QF upgrade system (Domestic and International) is up s#%t creek.
Mind you though, had 7 hours solid sleep in 12A on QF94 and the whole flight took 14 hours and 20 minutes. We were literately "flying".

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

I call them up and apparently it's just a website problem and I shouldn't be concerned. Yeah, right.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Expert Flyer is showing this, so I'm not feeling confident (or particular happy with what seats would be available if the upgrade goes through)

And I was hoping to wow my partner with the old first seats!
