Hi @PineappleSkipThe dom. upgrade fairy needs prodding sometimes.
MEL-SYD QF474 28 May, 2x U seats available but the IT gods waitlisted us pineapples. Call to the premium line, where the upgrade fairy might live, and we got the wonderful Anita who divorced our married segments and fixed it up. We had booked a DSC flight MCY-MEL-SYD. As you do.
Tried again tonight, 5x U seats available on MEL-BNE on QF634 17 Jul, but another waitlist as I'd booked a DSC through fare SYD-MEL-BNE. As you do. I'll give the fairies a call tomorrow and ask for another divorce.

Or maybe its too popular and no luck with my request.

You can also check by seeing if there are classic award business seats available on the flight. If there are not then there aren't U seats available.
If your domestic flight has sufficient U seats available then calling up should work. Otherwise you'll need to wait till closer to departure to see if it comes through.
A request getting stuck often happens if the upgrade request is made before the flight is ticketed. So if you make a booking wait till you get the e-ticket before putting an upgrade request in.

Bummer. Hope you get the upgrade on return.Fail for my BNE/PER flight today (pity as it’s an A330), will have slum it in 24D instead.
Hoping to have more success on my return flights PER/ADL and ADL/BNE
Actually, if the seat next to me is empty, I don’t mind staying in Y. Unless it’s a 737 long Perth to eastern states of course. I’ve been lucky with most upgrades recently. HBA-PER was also full in J but less than 50% in Y.Well Qantas have no problems on BNE/PER and vice versa. A333 was full in Business yet only 170 in Y. The CSA said similar for the return flight last night (full in J but only 130 in Y).
economy cabin half empty but still stuck in a middle seat between two other passengers.
The joys of Platinum.
Don’t know how this ‘happened’, mate and it’s lovely to be at fault. Perhaps because there are two of us flying together. We got the window and the middle. Someone else was put in the aisle seat. How did this happen?

Ok, duly noted. Would have still hoped the other seat was free given the amount of free seats on the planeComplaining that you were 'stuck in a middle seat between two passengers' is a little disingenuous if one of them was your travel partner.
That happened to me but it turned out that the lady's husband had booked that seat for her. (Really - a middle seat!) However it was very easy to move across the aisle after take off.Ok, duly noted. Would have still hoped the other seat was free given the amount of free seats on the plane
