Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

Unsuccessful upgrade to J on QF702 MEL-CNS as a WP. The return leg for QF703 has come successfully x2 a day prior departure. Not surprised as flight was very full on the way to Cairns

Are you traveling domestic or International? Id you are both on flights you can connect the PNRs and if you are both on fare classes that are upgradeable then you can request upgrades for both.

If purely domestic then all fares are able to be upgraded from Y to J.

All bookings will be through my qff account .

If they’re international saver fares, they can go in the upgrade lottery. If they are sale fares, no. Easiest way is plug in the PNR and try to make an upgrade request. If non upgradeable it will tell you.

Successful upgrade from Y to J on QF2, 9th December 2021, as a SG.
Seat 1K was nice!
It *almost* made up for the 5 days of quarantine.
Qantas LHR lounge was not open. BA lounge was comfy though.
And they had better booze than the SYD First Lounge did.

Interesting, as this is the first time I have had to actually use points for an upgrade in ages.
(And the first time an upgrade request has ever been successful on QF1/2 - I ALWAYS request if I have enough points)
PER-SYD back in June, W seats were available for Y seat selection, so it was nice to have the extra space.

Jan 2020, SYD-AKL - on check in discovered I had been moved from Y to W.

October 2019, QF1 SIN-LHR. Points upgrade had been requested - unsuccessful.
On arrival in SIN noticed that I had been moved to W from Y for the SIN to LHR leg.
No points were taken.

Ok . I booked 2 economy flex tickets using points for my parents for a flight I am travelling on biz classic awards. also submitted a request for classic upgrade for them. do I have to wait for 7 days before flight or is there a way to get a guaranteed upgrade earlier?

I see from up-thread that this is an international flight. Sometimes you are not notified of an upgrade until a day or two before. I have not heard of there being an overall 7 day limit. I'm sure my last PER-JFK upgrade was advised with only a few days to go. I think the only way to get a guaranteed upgrade is to actually change your booking to J! P1s are the only people who I believe are almost always guaranteed upgrade success, if it is not offered complementary anyway.

Just a reminder that this thread is to post results of upgrade requests once received, whether successful or not. Let us know your result.

Domestic or International?

If International you need to wait for the appropriate status window for upgrade processing. A week for P1, 48 hours for WP, etc (or see if reward seats open up in J and try to change their Y to J, but unlikely). If domestic, the upgrades should clear if U opens up (obviously depending on others with higher status on the WL)

International the new DEL- MEL -QF70. I am currently bronze but will be gold post this flight courtesy the status match and points club.

Reward J is currently available but double the points required at close to a million QFF each!

Actually this would not be a reward J seat
This would be a "pay with points" revenue seat. Different thing.

When we say reward seat, we mean what Qantas call Classic Reward Seats, and are much much less points cost, and much more rare.

Yes you are right . It is a pay with points revenue seat .

Unfortunately, you’re unlikely to know for sure until you’re inside 24 hours of departure - sometimes it’s right down to the wire. If it’s a hard ‘no’, you might be notified earlier of that outcome. Status is the only thing that will get you an earlier confirmation for an international points upgrade, but not a lot of difference, time wise, until you’re at WP or P1.

I understand it’s been a very popular route since going on sale, but hopefully you get lucky!

Perhaps you can seek out flight loading / availability on the relevant thread and get a better sense of chances for your particular flights and dates?

Cheers,
Matt.

In some cases I haven’t been notified of a fail in the international upgrade lottery at all.
