Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

My son, only bronze status, was successful from Y to J at T-28 on QF10 Per-Mel.

Plenty of seats to select.

Plenty of time to enjoy the lounge - just got an SMS our departure is pushed back 3hrs

This was caused by the diversion of the aircraft to Frankfurt on the way into London unfortunately.

Yes he showed me the very poorly worded SMS from QF at dinner.

Delay is actually 27 hours - not leaving until Tues night.

Dogs breakfast of messaging for me; delayed 3 hrs, then cancelled. Currently showing I'm back to the original gate time, and still in J, but on B737 metal.

Not a great outcome tbh...

....and now when I go to check in, I'm back in Y. Probably the best result of a bad set of choices, as I'd not normally drop 27,000 points for 3 1/2 hrs in a 737 J seat.

Better luck next week.

The QF9/10 for purely domestic PER-MEL is not worth it, QFi ontime performance is terrible and high risk of cancellation

Is Qantas no longer doing the immediate acceptance of upgrade request now? Made a request for a flight in December to Melbourne (as part of a larger OS trip that is in J) and it's just sitting there. WP.

I haven’t had immediate upgrades for over twelve months, yet all my flights have been upgraded. I think QF is holding out for cash sales for as long as possible! Flights include PER-MEL or reverse as well as BME-PER. I have a few classic reward upgrade requests in for May and still waiting.

Just wondering if you've both checked 'U' fare class availability, and held the upgrade request submission until after flights had ticketed? It's only with that combination in place that it would upgrade on the spot.

Well of course I don’t request an upgrade until after I have received the ticket! I’m not that green. Sometimes I don’t submit the request until weeks later, either. As to fare class, I must admit I haven’t taken any notice with either reward or paid bookings.

OK - the ticket thing has tripped me up a couple of times... there was U class availability, but confirmed booking not yet ticketed when putting in the request, and then it just goes into the queue for later review. It won't clear until nearer the travel date.

U class availability is needed for instant upgrade confirmation on DOM flights.
International is always a wait and hope[less] situation :)

Cheers,
Matt.

I'm not subscribed to expert flyer but thought a random mid morning flight to Melbourne 11 months out would be avaliable. It has been ticketed though.

Are you saying SYD-MEL or something like that?

well simply if you can see a classic reward business seat on the domestic fligjht then your upgrade request should have cleared.

you can always try to cancel and resubmit the request but there may be something else weird going on.

They do still do immediate domestic upgrades if U is available of course. Had one a few months back.

Thanks. I'll try that. It's a simply ADL - Mel flight on a Tuesday morning. In December that links with same PNR as flight to Dubai on EK.

Yep. Award availability on the flight for two people. So U is available and it's been ticketed. Wots up?

So I just cancelled and retried. Still on request.

I do hope this is not another enhancement.
