Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

Success upgrading myself (Gold) and partner (Bronze) from Business to First SYD>LA last week. No luck on the way home.

HKG Y→J successful text at T-26. Would have thought it’d be a bit earlier as a P1 but guess QF runs it to the wire. Happy to get a flat bed for the redeye.

From Y flex -> J (with PE/gate ticked on) as a WP.
27/6 QF2 LHR-SIN: PE granted at T-22. The flight was completely full.
28/6 QF84 SIN-SYD: rejected at T-9. J was full and Y at about 50-60% load.

SG QF7 (SYD-DFW) 21 June. Flexible Y fare. Requested upgrade to J when I booked on 3 March, with fallback to PE. No luck on either, but I did get an empty seat next to me in Y, and a personal greeting.

SG (now LTG) QF8 (DFW-SYD) 1 July. Flexible fare. Requested upgrade on 3 March. Unsuccessful with J (unless I get a last minute reprieve on boarding), but got an upgrade to PE at T-19. Now I will find out whether premium economy middle seat is better or worse than standard economy aisle on a 17 hour flight.

Happy to report that I was mistaken: my seat was bulkhead aisle premium economy, not middle seat. And yes, the upgrade was very worthwhile: closer to business than economy. Thanks to those who advised me to try it!

Wasn’t really expecting a win here given its school holidays in Vic and B737.

Mrs Goosh just got the text for Premium upgrade which is a win..

For both of us

Return flights from our trip out to the USA tonight from LAX - SYD.

Seperate DSC bookings on Economy Flex for Mrs Goosh (Gold) and myself (platinum).

Both received text message at 2:08pm LA time to say upgrade request not successful.
