Qantas Wine latest offering

Unfortunately I missed the boat, but I have waitlisted for that activity.

Also, I will be arriving early to spend 2 days touring the Margaret River with some friends from the USA before the do starts. Looking forward to it :)

Maybe I should do a wine TR, although that is FT, not AFF.

I was in Margaret River between Christmas and New Year - loved Margaret River the town, but wasn't that impressed with much of the wine! Was really disappointed! It was bloody hot (near 40 every day), so red was off the radar for me (my friend was drinking red though!), but I didn't think much of the MR Chardonnay style (except Leeuwin Estate, which was great) and can no longer stand Sauv Blanc or Sem Sauv Blanc. Personal pref of course. Would go back in a heart beat though - it was just that sort of place!

Don't they do a lot of good riesling there?

Some - Leeuwin Estate Art Series Riesling is a good one - had a glass of that with my entree followed by a glass of Chardonnay with my main course! But Margaret River is not really known for riesling - most well known for chardonnay and cab merlot.

A couple of hours drive away at Pemberton/Great Southern, they do some good rieslings and a couple of hours further at Frankland river, they do some fantastic rieslings. Right up there with Clare and Eden Valley. Unfortunately didn't make it that far, but have a nice Frankland River riesling in the fridge!

Is it still available? Thought they had different vineyards/labels/styles - need to pay more attention when I'm there (a couple of times a year)!

Was that part of the bonus points promo?

Yes it's still available, no bonus points but selling for $22 a bottle ( retail $30 where available) 2007 Sexton Vineyard Chardonnay.
Wouldn't keep but is a very big Chardonnay and not showing any real signs of flagging despite its age.
I've actually ordered another case.
Should out myself as a lover of the big, Aussie Chardy incase anyone is expecting an austere drop

Thanks. Sounds like it might be nearing the end of its prime! But could be a bargain. Current vintage near $40 retail!

Did you purchase the festive dozen? If you did, or have otherwise tasted, what did you think of the Madfish Margaret River Chardonnay?

I like both the bigger styles and the more restrained - depends!

Isn't the exclusive about being served in QF lounges. Also the exclusive labelled wines were the ones that earned bonus points.

Maybe... There was probably some fine print I didn't read

Thanks for the heads up - I certainly hope it won't be that hot!

Wine can be quite a personal thing. I have some Margaret River wines I love and some I really don't...

A couple of famous Margaret River Chardonnays can be very buttery... Not sure if you like that or not.

One of my favourite QF wines was the old Voyager Estate Sem Sauv Blanc in QF Domestic J. Many a bottle were enjoyed washing down the trout salad refreshment service on short hops around Australia :p

I think you're safe on the heat front!!

Don't mind some buttery Chardonnays. A couple of my favourites are Curly Flat and Bannockburn - both very different styles, although both at the heavier end oc the spectrum.

From memory, Voyager Estate Sem Sauv Blanc was one of the few I didn't mind - I may have even bought one! Prices are pushing it though! Sounds like a good match for the dish. Sometimes that's what makes it.

I'm in need of another bonus points offer now so I can have an excuse to buy my last 12 bottles (to get my 8000 points)

Both Margaret River and Swan Valley produce some great Verdehlo wines. I much prefer a Chenin Blanc or Verdehlo to Sauv Blanc and Sem blends

Oh no. Double points offer just come in when spending over $200 on wine and event ticket purchases. Also seems to be some selected cases that are also earning double points but no time to look tonight. Will digest the offers tomorrow and may have to make some room in the house!! Offers, offers, offers . . .

Double points when you spend $200 or more, so 6 points per $1... Nice!

It almost sounds like you need to buy tickets & wine together, but the fine print says wine only is fine!

Too many to chose from...! Help...!

Aw rats. Henschke's new cellar door list arrived today. 2008 Hill of Grace at $595 ea and a case or 4 of the Mt Edlestone is gonna dry up discretionary wine funds for a while.

EpiQure - add Henschke and Rockford to the cellar selection and I am yours for the plucking!

I've heard that Rockford won't sell to Qantas, so I don't think we'll ever see Epiqure selling Basket Press!

And before people jump up and down because they've seen Rockford in F lounge... Remember... Accor buys the wine!
