Qantas Wine latest offering

Correct. Applies to all wines. If a cork is TCA infected, there is nothing to be done in terms or re-corking.

The majority of wine under cork will be fine. However, personally, given the choice of cork or screw cap, I'll choose the less risky option.

Buying champagne worries me in the TCA context, but it doesn't stop me. I've opened and sadly discarded lots of aged riesling for this reason.

Only only said "if".

I agree mostly what you say about GWD in regards to spruiking, some of it gets ridiculous, however there is some wines to be discovered there every now and then. I am sure you being a wine buff, you could find something decent on GWD. Plenty of other wine buffs have and still buy certain things from GWD. Woolworths and Coles are just the same IMO, spruiking many of their own brand labels that are junk.

Are Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, Syrah du Monde, International Wine Challenge "Timbuctoo"? The FU Shiraz I specifically mentioned has won awards from these Timbuctoo wine competitions and also has previous high regard from The Wine Advocate.

My last sentence referred to the fact that Penfold's said they would never ever sell to an online discount website, especially a St Henri however they did sell St Henri direct to a discount site a few years back.

I bought the 2011 Viking to try on my own merits based on the 2010 vintage. Same reason I bought the current St Henri vintage however I personally don't think it is as good as people say it is. I think I have better vintages of St Henri in my collection, even whilst they were young such as this vintage. Each to their own with wine and palate.

A bit of an extrapolation to suggest that because I dont buy from GWD I dont buy from a whole heap of other places (because I do buy from many of the places you mention). But GWD has this ability to spruik that I find most unappealing and their track record of selling wine with trophies (from Timbuctoo maybe) which then taste like cough is one I dont like much, and neither do many of the other wine buffs I know. Its an opinion I know but one shared by many that GWD are very misleading, using wrong years to advertise wines and offshore wine shows (if the wines are so great why have they not been submitted to an Australian wine show) being but one example. And in your last sentence it's just possible that Penfolds know a little better than your auction site which wines they make.

You mention Viking, is it just possible you bought the 2011 because GWD sold it as just as good as the 2010? Because that is after all their modus operandi. PS. Yes I do know the wine but no I didnt buy the 2011 because I rely on the advice of others than GWD. And I agree Epiquire is expensive.

Good price thanks for the heads up. I think the 2011 Bin 389 is pretty good.
I'd you want cheap bin 389, liquorland has 30% off 6 wines. High RRP of $80 a bottle but will be $56 after discount which is cheap. :)

Yes, well I dont buy the Coles/Woolworths BS either so, yes I dont buy from there much either.

A much discussed topic on wine forums as to why people exhibit at the "foreign"shows. Generally the feeling is that Australian wines are likely to stand out more at these shows and a fruit bomb is a point of difference amongst hundreds of wines tasted in a day and hence likely to do better, whereas Aussie shows have moved away from these type of wine. Looking at some of the others to get golds at these shows there are some names I wouldn't touch but we all need to make our own judgement of awards and their value.

and also has previous high regard from The Wine Advocate.

Well
a) Wine Advocate used to love fruit bonbs but equally have moved against them so a good rating of a 2004 does not mean they will also rate a later vintage highly
b) Different year, probably different maker = totally different wine in my opinion, but gives a good example of the spurious stuff GWD throws in ("let's tell them the 2004 was good in the hope theye are too stupid to notice this is a later vintage")

Each to their own with wine and palate.
100% agree.

Pulled the trigger on this one, seemed a pretty good deal... had a look at the reviews of the Reds and they all get a pretty good write up if that's worth anything. The bubbles will be more than drinkable to my palate too so nothing to lose I guess.

Using Discounted Wish Cards & Start Here, $80.78 for 6 bottles, Bottle Bag & Free Delivery...

Penfolds recommend peak drinking from Now to 2055, which seems like a remarkably wide range.

I have just opened the box, and yes, mine have corks too

I opened my box from DM last night and was pleased to find screw caps, so it seems there is a mix of stock still at DM.

My cellar is a bit short on Cab Sav, so decided to pull the trigger on the Peter Lehmann.

Thanks for the heads up QF WP!

You and me both :D

My pleasure - I'd hate to see anybody miss out on these deals.

I am going to be getting a scolding when the case turns up though as we are going to the Hunter next weekend and the cellar is not sparse as it is!

There are a few bonus offers not listed, ie

A Taste of Qantas epiQure
Taittinger Brut Reserve Champagne NV

Case of 6 $299.94
(equivalent to $49.99 a bottle)
or 43,494 points

2000 Bonus Points
I'm not a Champagne drinker, but I'm sure others here will help themselves:

I got a bottle from my father (his gift from joining EpiQure), so at least I'll get to sample it one day.

That's right and they currently only have the 2011 in stock online at $56 a bottle. My order has arrived today and I might see if my local Dan Murphy's can beat it tonight if they have some in stock. They say it is lesser Bin 389, I thought it was pretty good and apparently almost the entire production of Bin 707 went into the 2011.

There was some discussion up thread that is cheaper at Liquorland at $56

I thought I had seen these deals possibly, there is a post (#1482) from Mr-Orange that links to it, unless the link only shows current deals.

Not to my knowledge - but I could be wrong, as I didn't save last weeks email. When I buy from a weekly email, I keep it to confirm price until the order is delivered, then delete.
