Qantas Wine latest offering

Yes linked 2011 389 as it is the current vintage.

Dan Murphy's 1300 number told me no more stock is available and that they are not getting anymore however Queensland still has some stock. The girl also said the website correctly displays store stock, not sure if I believe that though.

Oh, I thought the previous conversation was talking about the 2010 Bin 389 - from reports, it looks like the 2010 was rated slightly better than the 2011, but having not tried either I don't know.

Have you tried both 2010 and 2011 - if so, what are your thoughts?
 
Melbourne city DF offer any 2 Penfolds bin 150, 389 and 407 all vintage 2010 for $100.
Looks like a good deal if going overseas.
 
He picked up a case of 6 of the 389 2010's from his local Dan Murphys (where he is a regular and they know him), but paid way over the odds ($73 per bottle IIRC - same price I paid for the St Henri through EpiQure). Still, he's happy he has 3 of each now. Cellaring time...

Finally found my own little wooden box of the 2010 St Henri today at my local Dan Murphys, they seem to have plenty of stock. It would have been nice to get the extra 2000 points but Epiqure never replied to my enquiry about whether they would be getting more supplies.

Can't say that there is anything to tempt me in the latest Epiqure bonus points offering, besides I have probably spent enough on wine this month.

Is yours cork or screw cap? Mine is cork.. I read a thread on a wine forum where people think that 1) Penfolds are purposely drip feeding stock and 2) the cork stock were meant for overseas delivery but were "redirected" due to local demand.. the cork is getting some "bad press" for some reason.

I don't know enough to comment, but is a cork that bad? Even if cellared correctly - surely there lots of great wines out there that are corked - I mean, how else were they doing it before screw caps came on the market?

Wines with corks are fine 95% of the time but at that price would rather not risk it!

Cork has a much higher risk of failure than screw cap. Its that simple. With cork you run the risk of TCA (1 in 10 is the usually quoted rate for TCA), plus general issues like the cork drying out and general leaking. While screw caps aren't perfect, they are orders of magnitude more reliable. I know for certain that if I open a wine under screw cap it wont be TCA affected.

What is the ideal cellaring time for the 2010 St Henri?

Not that I have any, just asking...

Penfolds recommend peak drinking from Now to 2055, which seems like a remarkably wide range.

I have just opened the box, and yes, mine have corks too

That is an extraordinary range. Does that mean that they do not anticipate the wine will improve (or deteriorate) much in the next 40 years? :shock:
 
I'd you want cheap bin 389, liquorland has 30% off 6 wines. High RRP of $80 a bottle but will be $56 after discount which is cheap. :)

Correct. Applies to all wines. If a cork is TCA infected, there is nothing to be done in terms or re-corking.

The majority of wine under cork will be fine. However, personally, given the choice of cork or screw cap, I'll choose the less risky option.
