Qantas Wine latest offering

EpiQure's Thursday email is out, hilariously entitled "Ssh! The secret's out" :D

That's right EpiQure - indeed the secret is out on this site, you made a mistake and the smart ones amongst us grabbed some bonus points ;)

2011 Bin 389 is very good, has the fruit that was earmarked for the Bin 707 that was not made for that year.

Ta. Turns out I only have 2006, 08 and 09 bin 389 at home. Plus now some 2011. Pick up this mix from Dan's. Note the Bordeaux is quite good and fills out the half dozen discount nicely @$9.50 a bottle. Not sure about the 50 year old McLaren vale Shiraz. ;)

Has anyone tried the Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier 2012?
https://www.qantasepiqure.com.au/Wine/Clonakilla-Shiraz-Viognier-2012/p/CLSHIRVIO12

Seems to have a good write up:

“Has the best colour of the '12 Clonakilla red wines, hardly a surprise; the bouquet is supremely fragrant, almost flowery/scented, the palate instantaneously imprinting its total harmony and balance; fruit, oak and tannins are all seamlessly interwoven, the length prodigious. Low yields were the secret.” – 97 Points James Halliday

“This vintage of Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier is an easy one to both rate and enjoy. In some ways it’s perfect. Perfect, filligreed tannin. Perfect meaty style. Wonderful spicy aromatics. And terrific length. For overall style, deliciousness, and enjoyability it’s as good as any Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier release yet. It should also grow into itself beautifully; it has medium-weight cellarability tattooed all over it. Sleeves of black cherry and Asian spice, a torso of licorice and smoky oak. There is though a lingering sense of diluteness about the wine; it’s perfectly ripe and masterfully drawn, but the flavours are in water colours. This does not detract from the enjoyment a jot.” – 94 Points Campbell Mattinson

“A lighter, more savoury and more perfumed Clonakilla that promises exceptional longevity. It’s explosively fragrant, exotically spicy and refreshingly tangy, loaded with potpourri, cardamom, dried flowers, Campari, white pepper and rose hip over an elegant core of morello cherries. Lively acidity meets superfine, impeccably crafted tannins of immense presence. Cellar for a decade and drink with game.” – 96 Points Tyson Stelzer

Although it is selling for $90/bottle + postage, direct from Clonakilla.

Has anyone tried the Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier 2012?

together with ata rangi pinot noir, they are perhaps two of the most expensive wines that i buy regularly to cellar

(others might include henschke mount edelstone and rockford black shiraz)

at <$100/bt they are reasonably good value, being the best of their kind in aust/nz, world-class

Seems to have a good write up:

whilst jeremy oliver gave it 95

Thanks, very helpful.
Have you tried the 2009 Clonakilla SV? How does it compare to the 2012 (or have you not tried it yet)?

Has anyone had any experience with Epiqure delivering the wrong wine?
Opened a package today to find out I have been sent a lesser variety.. rang just then and they are following it up with supervisors and whatnot.... sigh

$76, screw cap. Location will be revealed pending an SMS from a friend with first dibs. Though we did crack open the last box the store had...

What, you didn't take the whole box? :o

Looks like the Dan's RRP for the St Henri 2010 is back to $85 single bottle.
