Qantas Wine latest offering

I got one of the James Halliday mixed dozen (red) just to see whether his palate and mine agree. $246 for 738 points.

Edit: Just checked out the bonus offers. Just realised I'm giving some clients 3 dozen wines over the next 2 days. Picked up a Bests Shiraz and the Howard Park SBS. All in $251.88 for 4,756 points

Has anyone had any experience with the Peter Lehmann Stonewell Shiraz?
Epiqure has the 2008 for $70 and 2009 for $80.
A quick look on boozle shows that the nearby BWS have them as low as $55.99 (normally $80 but there is 30% off in any half dozen).
I went to one of them tonight and they didn't have any - they don't have much in that price range??
DMs have the 2010 as current stock.. wondering if they can price match because from all reports, 2010 was a great year for the Barossa (I think someone here was talking about the 2010 Stonewell being quite good; earlier this year)

Quite a few if not all of us had the 2010 Stonewell during our August AFF Barossa Tour. Very impressed.
Not sure about previous vintages but if you can get some for $55.99 I would go for it, even if you need to buy some clean skins to make up 6.

Just got email email regarding the Penfolds cellar sale.

The Grange 2008 has been out of stock and is still out of stock and the 2009 sale price is still $170 more than Dan Murphy (DM price finished today though)

Yes. A quality wine that will age well. If you like your big Barossa Shiraz then don't hesitate. I purchased half a dozen of the 2008 on release. Not touched any and unlikely to for another 4 years at least. I've had older examples of this wine and I highly rate it.

2008 is a better vintage than 2009. Halliday rated them both a 96 while Jeremy Oliver (much more realistic ratings IMHO) gives the 2008 a 95 and the 2009 a 92. The fact the 2008 is $10/bottle cheaper is an added bonus. At $56 would be an absolute bargain!

Thanks, yes I do like a good Barossa shiraz. I'll give DMs a go on the weekend and report back. Might need to get a bottle of Taittinger or two to make up the six if they don't have enough.

What is everyone's opinion of Huon Hooke as a reviewer (see him referenced on the DMs website)? There can be a fair bit of variation between them and I know everyone's tastes will be different but as far as consistency which others should I be looking at?

Huon Hooke is a tough reviewer, it has to be really good to score over 90. I agree that Jeremy Oliver is a bit more realistic in his ratings and as a bonus, for me at least, I seem to have similar tastes to him. James IMO seems to score everything high these days.

I raised the 2008 issue with Epiqure and they called me back and said it is now loaded on the website. It also includes 2 Riedel glasses.

I think I might go one of these as I've always wanted a bottle of Grange and the 2008 scored a 100 so it warrants my recent Vintec purchase

Went to DMs, even though the website said 2010 was their current vintage, they only had 2009s... and that new stock would only arrive when those 2009s got sold.
Looks like "current vintage" is generic and inventory varies per store.

Just out of interest for the Penfolds vintec promotion. I reached the eight week mark from validation with no fridge so sent am email to the listed address. Got one back saying words to the effect of "account closed contact vintec". Next day I got a phone call from vintec apologising for delay saying delivery would be by November.

she mentioned on the call they had 11,000 to deliver from the promotion.

Whoops, should have been clear - I checked the website which was showing that my local DMs had 4 of the Stonewell. Sure enough, they did - but they were of the 2009 only. Even though the website indicated that they had 4 of the 2010, termed "current vintage", I don't think they are able to (publicly) show what particular vintages they do and don't have... and probably treat all vintages of this wine as one *type*.
