Qatar Airways Delays/Cancellations

QR8836, the scheduled Monday 11 May 2020 arrival in MEL (ex DOH) is estimated to be at gate at 0535 hours instead of 0150, so 235 minutes tardy. B773ER A7-BAL is the aircraft.

QR8837 back to DOH should depart at 0705 rather than 0320 hours.

Tomorrow QR has two scheduled MEL - DOH flights, and seems to be the airline operating the highest number of long distance flights to/from Australia during coronavirus. However its CEO this week warned of inevitable redundancies among flight and cabin crew numbering in the thousands.

Given airlines cannot carry most non-Australian citizens inbound (save for a few exceptions such as diplomats), and nor can they convey most locals outbound, it would be interesting to know what percentage of seats are occupied. Unfortunately specialist Internet sites aren't of much assistance, and we're not supposed (at least in Victoria) to go to the airport to observe.

On Wednesday 13 May 2020, QR8837, the 0320 hours unimpressively timed MEL to DOH was airborne at 0530 hours, almost two hours late.

QR905 (Friday 15 May 2020, the scheduled late night 2230 hours MEL - DOH) is estimated to depart 45 minutes late. This seems a little optimsitic because the inbound QR904 is not coming in until about 2152 tonight, 52 minutes tardy.

On Saturday 16 May, DOH - MEL QR8836 should arrive at 0322 hours, 92 late and just about the worst time I can think of to alight.

The Wednesday 20 May 2020 scheduled QR908, the evening 2030 hours from DOH down to SYD did not take off until 0045 on Thursday 21. Accordingly, estimated arrival should be 2059 hours mid evening, 244 minutes tardy. Aircraft is A350-10 A7-ANH.

The Wednesday night flight in the opposite direction, QR909 from SYD to DOH did not depart until this morning at around 0600 hours.

Thank you Rangalad. No need for a reply, but I assume you work for an airline in some capacity (or an airport) to have access to that level of detail. Great.

The Friday night QR flight must have had a dispensation from the Minister for Transport's delegate as normally aircraft need to be off blocks by 2245 to take off by 2300 hours from SYD.

No worries mate.
As the old saying goes:
Ask no questions, hear no lies....😉

The has been (and is) fog in Melbourne on the morning of Tuesday 26 May 2020, but so far not delaying flights.

QR8836 from DOH, scheduled to arrive at 0150 hours did so at 0510 hours, but was delayed out of Qatar.

As a result, QR8837, the 0320 hours back to DOH is expected to depart at 0900 hours.

Friday 5 June 2020's QR908 from DOH to SYD, the mid evening 2030 hours, did not become airborne until 0037 hours on Saturday 6 so A350 A7-ANN should arrive at about 2106 hours, 191 late.

Victoria's Premier had asked for international flights to be diverted from MEL for two weeks due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases being detected in Melbourne.

QR904, the scheduled 2050 hours Wednesday 1 July 2020 arrival (ex DOH) was cancelled.

Friday 18 December 2020 has QR905, the late night 2230 hours from MEL to DOH, cancelled.

A7-ANR however looks to have operated QR904 into MEL tonight, arriving at 1808 hours, 12 early.

QR908, the 2015 hours DOH - SYD on Monday 28 March 2022 (B773 A7-BEP) was airborne at 2132. Tuesday 29 arrival should be at around 1934 hours, 69 minutes late.

From 1 April 2022, this flights is switching from a B773 to an A351.

QR898 (Friday 1 April 2022, the mid evening 2130 hours DOH - BNE with B773 A7-BEQ) was airborne at 0005 hours on Saturday 2 so BNE arrival tonight should be 2047, 267 minutes behind the timetable. The 2240 hours BNE back to DOH (QR899) may be able to depart on or very close to time, again showing the value of having longer than minimum turnaround scheduled times.

On Anzac Day, Monday 25 April 2022, QR909 (2100 hours mid evening SYD - DOH, A35X - if that's the correct designation - A7-ANQ) was still taxiing at 2227 hours.

While one cannot monitor every flight, from observation it's rare for QR to cancel flights in and out of Oz.

On Friday 10 June 2022, QR908, the scheduled 1725 hours arrival from DOH to SYD was cancelled so the mid evening 2100 hours departure back, QR909 is also receiving the boot.

On Saturday 11 June, QR909D, the (re)scheduled 2100 hours SYD - DOH is delayed overnight until 0615 in pushback on Sunday 12.

Rare but it happened to us out of Adelaide just as we were about to board.
