QF A380 to DFW; QF9/10 retiming

That shouldn't have taken very long.
QF: BA, we're taking our slots back. You can use these ones instead.

Without full knowledge of the agreements regarding the slots at LHR, it is a bit presumptious to make that comment.

Also good for JQ23 MEL-NRT which is a 2300 departure...
and the later JQ171 CHC, JQ217 AKL

Along with late CX to Hong Kong, MH to KL and QR to Doha

Oh, it's so lucky we have a poster on this forum who can enlighten us all with their extensive experience in airline/airport slot negotiation.

MEL-LHR changes from 20 July (earlier then the previously stated November)
DFW changes from 29 September.
10 weeks of newly "free" A380 doing nothing.

Fitting in a couple of D checks before the A380 fleet scheduled downtime decreases?

We are returning QF10 on Wednesday July 23, that means getting into MEL on Thursday night, seems a better deal than battling with early Friday morning peak hour traffic. :)

When do QF normally update their timetable? The new times aren't loaded yet.

Hi

First post!

I need some advice: have booked an AA award BNE-MEL-LHR return for next March/April with the old timings in mind. Obviously we now have the choose of sending all day in the Flounge (if it's open) or looking for award seats on a later flight from BNE to reduce connection time. But coming home, we'll land in MEL too late to get a connecting flight home. I had already booked the 9am MEL-BNE flight assuming a 5:10am arrival into MEL, and now we'll be arriving late the night before, I assume (hope) I can keep that flight booking and just go to a hotel near the airport for the night.

Does anyone know if this is what happens with overnight connections, and whether the fact that it's an award booking makes any difference? Also, will our checked luggage remain at the airport overnight? I know this is how JAL does their overnight connections at NRT en route to Europe.

If anyone knows I'd appreciate some help.

Thanks

This is a bit of a surprise - I expected them just to go daily A380 on SYD-HKG. I think the QF9 new timings are excellent.

I'm most interested to see what this means for SYD-HKG services - I assume they have to change a few times a week to 747s as they'll need 3 (?) frames to do SYD-DFW daily?

As for the 747ERs that are freed up - I'm guessing they'll go onto SYD-HKG or SYD-SIN to cover the gap before the refurbed A333s start coming online early next year. What I do think would be a fantastic opportunity is if they put the refurbs on SYD-NRT - they would then have the best product on that route.

Welcome to AFF :)
You will collect your checked luggage and should be able to go on your BNE connecting flight the next day as booked.

They could have, but they could already do that and they'd still have A380's sitting around on the ground for excessive periods of time.

I think the QF9 new timings are excellent.
They look good at the moment. Waiting to get the DXB departure times confirmed.

They only need 2 aircraft for transpac daily flights (13-15 hours flight each way). The current times for LAX and DFW have each flight pass each other (ie QF7/11/15/93/107 pass QF8/12/16/94/108) somewhere around Hawaii.
They've needed 3 aircraft for the European flights because they sit on the ground in Europe for more then 3 hours. (21 hour flights, if they had done turns upon arrival in Europe to depart within 3 hours of arriving, they would only need 2 aircraft per route.) The new times mean each aircraft (1x SYD, 1xMEL) spend around 6 hours in LHR between flights instead of the 17 hours currently.

makes the planned Perth to San Antonio trip next February a bit more attractive, stopped in DFW on route to Orlando this year and it was a much nicer experience that LAX

CBP at DFW seem much nicer then at LAX. Though they've gotten a bit confused when a flight from MEX has arrived and they're dealing with someone from another flight...

Welcome to AFF. In addition to what Princess Fiona indicated, I'm sure QF will contact you regarding your booking. You may want to arm yourself with the knowledge of options that you'd like to consider, and evaluate those in addition to options QF suggest.

As good as this news may seem to some, I have 3 trips booked to HKG in Oct, Nov and Feb all in F.
"NOT HAPPY JAN":evil::evil::evil:.
Cant wait for the call from QF, downgrading me to an old Mk1 bed.

Maybe I can organise the meetings to be in Dallas instead of Shenzen :confused:

QF might not make contact. These flights appear to be booked separately. The system isn't going to alert QF that the changes have affected the connection.
