QF A380 to DFW; QF9/10 retiming

How bout a 'world-class' service to Hawaii :(

Why is the DFW service only 6 days? Run out of aircraft?

Even by dropping Tuesdays apparently seat count has been increased - maybe Tuesdays were too quiet? Lack of aircraft is probably the bigger reason, so Tuesday was the 'least bad' day to cut.

They should take deliveries of the newer more fuel efficient/long range A380 that they were supposed to for this!

I am interested to know what lounge will be provided from customers travelling in First on this route. From a ground services stand point, Los Angeles has a far better premium traveller proposition with a fantastic First Host team and (soon to be) amazing lounges.

Dear redroo, so will those of us booked premium from bne to syd to connect to hkg, in premium, get upgrade to business, or refund for downgrade bne-syd.

Zachary, I believe the BA DFW has a small room for First/Emerald pax, and much like LAX there isn't much differentiation. For a single service doubt muxh more. Granted this will change at LAX although I can't see LAX being fully complete until 2015

Which part of the post suggests MEL-BNE is a separate booking?

Sorry, to clarify, each direction is booked separately, but on the one award ticket right through. BNE-LHR via MEL (QF9) on AA award, LHR-BNE via MEL (QF10) on QF award.

At the danger of crossing threads, I assume I'll be able to take advantage of Chauffeur Drive at each end on each ticket. It comes up on MMB but I haven't bothered trying to book anything yet until Qantas announced the retiming.

While I have the floor, does anyone know how easy it'll be to change the BNE-MEL leg of the AA award to a later flight? As good as the Flounge is, we'd rather not be there from 11am until 10pm (I may be in the minority in this forum in that regard I realise).

Cheers

Can't answer the chauffeur question but it should be relatively easy this far out to change the BNE-MEL flight. Just look on the QF website for a flight with Classic Award availability and AA should be able to change it for you if you ring up.
I have a similar thing to do with a FASA SYD-MEL-LHR rtn for next year as I also have no desire to spend 10+ hours in the MEL Flounge

The press release still suggests A380s and 747s to HKG, no mention of 330s.
So you might get the 747s with the old F which is still comfortable...

Pretty sure QF understand the CX product they are up against to HKG
;
Red ROO: Please clarify Hong Kong, and first seating options on 747 asap thanks. We would rather bad news than no news

6 days A380 = 84F/384J/210W/2226Y = 2904 seats per week

7 days B747 = 0F/406J/252W/1890Y = 2548 seats per week

More Y pax but less W/J pax per week and F

I can see better Y prices as they are carrying effectively another planeload of Y (extra 336) in the week, higher W/J prices and F awards for high tier pax.

I would think that there may be a possibility that the 747ER may come back into service once pax loads come to reality especially on the lighter parts of the year.

Hire a few First Hosts for check-in/immigration, and as for lounge - perhaps a joint QF/AA/EK effort?

So the 744ER was weight restricted, and I assume the A380 will be too, unless QF is suddenly going to use the EK HGW A380 ??

What about putting some 747's into Honolulu?
there never seems to be enough seats, and the price reflects that.
If 747 operate, then it would also be more appealing in "J" class, in comparison to what's on offer now.

TQ

Not going to happen!

Pretty sure that the flights to HNL are not totally full and I am sure someone will post up the load factors or something, but the 767 is a good size for this route and adding a 744 will just burn more fuel and likely leave with less than an optimum passenger load.

Currently the 767 is
25J
208Y

Given it's a route that QF hasn't cut it's making $$ and good $$, also it's getting upgraded to the A330 by the end of the year, and then the new J product early next year (hopefully)

Then it will be
30J
271Y

Which is a pretty good upgrade with about a 30% increase in seats!

As a side note as soon as QF have the new J on the route I'll be visiting Hawaii again :)

Outstanding News Red Roo!

Top choice to put the A380 onto a new route & drive QF brand awareness further.

I have yet to fly the longest flight in the world SYD > DFW..... with this announcement today ..... I cant wait to book!

The re-timing of QF9/10 makes much more sense for those who can work in Melbourne during the day, then relax at MEL & fly out later the same night.

I predict The New timing to be far more popular than the current one!

A Big Double thumbs up from me too!

Any ideas of duration, DFW-SYD?

DFW-BNE was bad enough in J (with old F product) - seemed to last forever!

Not sure I'd fancy DFW-SYD in Y!!!

BD

Great, love the new timings on QF9. Was very excited and called Qantas to change my flight MEL-ADL-DXB to MEL-DXB direct on QF9 and Qantas tells me that taxes have increased since I booked in March 2014 - originally paid $379 in taxes but now this has increased by $460 to a total of $839. I checked three times to make sure I understood correctly and that taxes hadn't increased $81 to $460. But no definitely 100% increase. ( My ADL - DXB was on EK instead of Qantas- not sure if that is a contributing factor) I ended up leaving my flight as is. How can this happen? Does anyone have answer?

A quick casual guess would be that you are now being asked to pay the Qantas fuel fines.

I have flights booked (AA F award) for the 29th Jan 2015.

CDG-HEL-LHR-DBX-MEL that are all now a total mismatch so I will be interested to see what AA offer. I might have to get ahead of the game and initiate the changes.

Interesting sideline is that AA are still offering flights at the old timings. (Oops. The answer is in post #7. QF loading new times on May 14th)

A wild guess, which makes a lot of assumptions about variables I have no idea about: DFW-BNE is timetabled for 965 minutes; DFW-SYD great circle distance is 3% further, so that makes it about 30 minutes longer.

Nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to "taxes"! I booked an award flight in J MEL-CMB in late February for $330 and 72,000 points, then in April I decided to fly one day earlier and the taxes were now $570, so a 72% increase!

Thanks - what a rip off!!! Can't believe it is more expensive to fly Qantas using Qantas points than Emirates.

Unbelievable
