Now I am not trying to be smart - just seeking clarification. Even after you were advising others to call after hours you decided to call during hours? And all went smoothly with no questions re ann fee refund?

Didnt offer any advice until after the second call (after hours) and had secured the refund. When I made the first call around 10am on the day in question I had no idea it would be refused.

OK tks for that - I cancelled Velocity AMEX couple mths back and local agent refused ann fee refund as pts transferred - I am staggered that it can be achieved via inter agent - so just calling number on back of card gets through to inter agents after hours?

Correct. I called at just after 6pm Sydney time and the call went through to someone in the Phillipines or US (not sure which). Woman put me on hold for a few minutes after I requested the refund then came back and said no problem. $450 was back on the card the next day then I rang to transfer it to my bank account and that should hit today or Monday.

But what I'm really wondering is that given the card appears to not have been closed yet whether I can still use the free flight.

So I rang again just after 6pm eastern.

Nice Chap answered that he was in Sydney.[

He seemed pretty open to the idea but had to seek clarification. After he came back he was all sorry and reiterated that since the points had transferred that is was absolutely not an option for any sort of refund.

Have had exactly the same response three times now. I was always prepared that I might have to wear this one but I will not give up trying.
Have had an exceptional run with others so maybe my luck has just run out!

QUOTE=Steady;1595342]IMO continue and if not successful HUACA. Make sure they know you haven't used the flight, the annual fee is substantial and worth reasonable effort to get back. Leaving it too long is not going to help your cause, I was told 2 months and IIRC NoName was told 3

I called during office hours and spoke to an Australian.[/QUOTE]

Called at 08:00 this morn and got a guy in Phils - cancelled card and asked for refund ann fee - answer was 'Sorry as pts have posted cannot refund ann fee'. Same standard answer I have had last several Amex cards I have cancelled - whether with Oz based or OS agents. Still 145K pts for $450 still rocks my boat - next please!

Seems I was very lucky ;)

Its worth asking, you never know if you don't try :)
Unfortunately my first statement came earlier than expected, and I hadn't hit the spend required for the mass points when they were transferred, so I won't be able to report on my own experience for another month...

Keep trying Cruiser.

So I rang again this morning, around 0800ish in WA. Nice young lady with Aussie accent answered.

I went straight to the point and suggested I would like to downgrade to the discovery as I don't frequent fancy restaurants and have no use for flight and so on. Also, I indicated a bit of a stuff up on my behalf, not reading the fine print about the fee and so on.
Wasn't game to suggest a full cancellation this time.

No worries was the reply and to expect a new card in the mail and the 450 on my account within a few days.

So fourth time lucky I suppose. It was probably a good wake up call that if one is really only interested in free points that it takes a bit more work. I almost feel a bit guilty!

I hope the AMEX reps do not read this forum.

How long did everyone's points take to post? Im awaiting the 105k bonus sign up for 1500 spend within the 3 months i met the spend on the 27th feb and the bonus isnt showing in my points transaction list yet?

They post on your statement date, not the transaction date.

Should show up when the transaction that put you over the $1500 mark appears in the point list. For that line it will have 105k in the bonus points column.

The transactions are showing in the point list, but no bonus points showing

Based on my discussions with Amex this afternoon regarding my ultimate, I dont think they do ;)

I guess I didn't read the fine print but I was going to book from my flight from Adelaide to Perth but I can't book ADL PER but you can do PER ADL - odd - anyone had any luck changing that

TIA

The destinations available to you are based on where you live. For once, living in Perth is quite advantageous.

I've heard that some people might "move" to another location in order to get the flights they want. Obviously if you happened to be living in Perth so far as Amex are concerned, your flights would need to originate here.

Thanks - it's probably not worth changing my address to Perth just to get to the cricket there - guess I'll have to book with the Qantas DSC and go to Brisbane for a weekend
