What number do I call?

Steady sorry, do not have the Amex information at hand but the department you will need to speak with is concierge services, try the general telephone number 1800 507 104 & they should be able to help. Lounge invitations where sent via Australia Post registered mail very quickly.

Suspect you are confusing this card with either the Westpac Black or ANZ Black cards. Both have 2 passes to the QP and one I recall having to ring the concierge to receive them. This card (QF AMEX Ultimate Card) has 2 visits to the AMEX Lounge in SYD T1.


Certainly happy to be wrong on the above though.

Appologies everyone, you are correct, it was the ANZ Black card with the QF invitations that I have just received. I had spoken to Amex about there card I received in December pertaining the booking for the complimentary flight. Awaiting new Westpac Black this week and intend to cancel my well used Earth Black.
 
Just rang to cancel. Told no refund of annual fee if you received bonus points. Obviously a HUATA job.


EDIT: Any suggestions on best time of day to call for this would be appreciated. Ie will I likely get more luck with an overseas call centre?

Indeed you do. I paid a little over a dollar to carbon offset a flight from BNE to SYD. That 'unlocked' the flight offer thanks to the awesome advice on here :)

Called back after hours and got the US (?) call centre. Full refund granted. Had the account open a few days less than 3 months.

No had not used the flight. Suspect that would have killed any chance of a refund as even the US call centre mentioned that since I hadn't used the flight they were able to refund the fee.

I agree, the 3 months and unused flight are important
 
I got told today by an Australian rep that they only do refunds within 30 days of paying the annual fee :(

No had not used the flight. Suspect that would have killed any chance of a refund as even the US call centre mentioned that since I hadn't used the flight they were able to refund the fee.
 
I have just called back to finalise the closure of the card and something has occurred to me here.

- Called yesdterday afternoon for the annual fee refund. It was granted in full and I was told to call back once the $450 hits my account to organise the transfer to a bank account. Money was there this morning.
- I called back just then and still had the option on the phone to redeem the complimentary flight.
- I didn't think anything of it so proceeded to have the cash transferred to me.

Im wondering if it would be possible to have the annual fee refunded, then redeem the flight and then once redeemed have the $450 transferred to a bank account and finalise closure. Anyone want to volunteer to find out? :D
 
Quick question... Do the points sweep across to your QF FF Account automatically? Monthly with statements?
 
Yes, it's an automatic monthly sweep - for my Qantas Amex Ultimate it has typically been around 5 days before each statement.

Never sure how much one should post here re cards,.. but I have learnt a lot from others.

But say one had used Steadys link, applied, received and met the minimum spend. Thence had the points post, paid the bill and now wished to cancel and receive fee (partial) refund.

I have zero use for the included. flight and most of the shop rebates that come with Amex. I and have rang up twice and expressed a desire to cancel. Have said, silly me, didn't realise the fee was so great etc etc and even offered to down grade to the discovery for a fee rebate, all to no avail.
Both times was the same script, you have received points and there is nothing we can do. Tried once in the morning and once in the evening.

Do you think my good run of free points may have come to an end or should I just keep trying everyday or wait a week or two? (rejections make me sad!)

Now I am not trying to be smart - just seeking clarification. Even after you were advising others to call after hours you decided to call during hours? And all went smoothly with no questions re ann fee refund?

IMO continue and if not successful HUACA. Make sure they know you haven't used the flight, the annual fee is substantial and worth reasonable effort to get back. Leaving it too long is not going to help your cause, I was told 2 months and IIRC NoName was told 3

I called during office hours and spoke to an Australian.
 
Sorry not quite on topic... but have people had the same annual fee refund success with AMEX Velocity platinum. I have called them up 3 times and have been told that there is no chance of a refund as I have received the bonus pts. Is it the same call centre? Should I try for an OS call centre and if so what time should I call.
