I just quickly read through all 14 pages again and didnt see anything. mustve missed it.
Qantas store is having 10% off atm, would points + pay trigger it? I read somewhere it doesnt but cant seem to find it again.

I recall that it does not as well but cannot say 100%

It must be the 'Qantas Air Australia' merchant. i.e. not:
- Qantas flights originating overseas
- Hotels
- Rental Cars
- Store (this appears as 'frequent flyer' IME)
- Experiences

The things that tend to work are all flight-related, such as gift vouchers, taxes on a domestic or ex-AU award booking, etc.

This thread has that info.

$50 QF voucher, tax on a classic award or paying the carbon offset on an existing booking are some that come to mind

This is a great tip Steady! Where in an existing booking can you go to pay the carbon offset? I can't seem to find it and would like to use Mrs NoName's card to do it as she hasn't triggered the free flight or final 2.5k bonus pts yet.

I don't actually know, I just recall reading it as an option. I just tried to on one of my bookings and I couldn't find a way to.

Edit; Seems I have given a bum steer on the carbon offset so anyone reading this should disregard it as an option. http://www.australianfrequentflyer....express-ultimate-card-21472-6.html#post320319

Qantas store will not work. Buy a $50 voucher or pay carbon offset at time of buying a flight.

I was curious about the carbon offset option, so I decided to look into it - searching the Qantas website brought me here:

https://www.qantasfutureplanet.com.au/

Out of pure interest, I bought on offset for a SYD-OOL flight for $0.83 using Mrs 2tall4Y's brand new Qantas Amex Ultimate. The pending transaction looks to be the same merchant as the one that shows up for Qantas flights. Will report back.

did you do this at the time of booking or at a later date?

Later date.

At that link I posted, I didn't need to provide a PNR for an actual booking, just an origin and a destination, and the number of passengers.

I see it was a bit of a dumb question now I have followed the link

This will be a really good option to if it works, looking forward to hearing the outcome when you know

Just used that link with Mrs NoNames card as she hasn't got the final 2500pts yet. Will advise if it works after the transaction is processed. I did SYD-CBR for 54 cents. :D

I dont think that carbon offset triggers the 2500pts or free flight.
My transaction has been processed and its showing as 0 points

However, I did receive 105kpts for reaching the spending limit which Im happy about (as I only just cancelled the Qantas premium card)
Stange though, I didnt receive any 5000pts for first spend. Will need to chase that up

My test transaction has now been processed, and I am afraid that consistent with auswill's experience, the carbon offset did NOT trigger the free flight:

I checked the transaction history on my own Qantas Amex Ultimate card, and the transaction that triggered the free flight for me appeared as 'QANTAS AIR AUSTRALIA AUSTRALIA' (subtle difference).

Same result for me sadly. It does get processed as a slightly different merchant name though so I can see why. Believe a flight is processed as Qantas Airways or similar.

Can confirm a voucher triggers the flight.

Good news, thanks for confirming, I bought a $50 voucher.

What is the indicator? Do you get an email?

Also, the free flight every year, what is the date they use as a new year
eg. 1 Jan, date you got your card, date you triggered free flight or date you fly/return?

It is basically the date that you were issued the card. You can ring and ask for the exact date.

I tried the carbon offset (for the 2500 points - the flight is pretty much useless to me). The 0.86 cent offset triggered nothing. When I increased it to go over $1, it triggered the 2500 points. I think the important part is going over $1. I don't believe it triggered the free flight.
