Hello Everyone,

New member here. Happy New Year 2017!

I have recently applied for the AMEX Explorer promo (using referal link). I am considering applying for the QF AMEX as well, but I am not sure if i will get the bonus points for QF AMEX Ultimate as well.

Any experiences/suggestions/data points or word of advice.

Thanks
Tuf

My experience...I haven't had a QF earning card from AMEX for a couple of years. I did have the explorer card for a few months (and used it to full advantage) and closed it shortly after Christmas.I then opened an Ultimate card a few days later and received the bonus points as soon as I hit the spend criteria. Points were transferred into my QF account even before the first months statement was posted or annual fee charged.

Good result all around but as others have mentioned YMMV.

Cheers,
Damien

One of the handy things with this card is the 3 points per $ on restaurant spend. When I previously held it, there was a bottleshop conveniently on my way home from work that was listed as a 'restaurant' due to it's adjacent tavern (it was an independent).

Now, to find a bottleshop that sells eftpos or visa gift cards...

Wholeheartedly agree exceladdict, the triple points on restaurants and cafes come in very handy!

Another useful feature of this card which does not get mentioned very much is 2 points per $ on (most) travel-related spend. According to Amex, the card earns double points on:

-Airlines, accommodation, major cruise and tour operators paid directly or through travel agencies

I have successfully netted double points for flights booked through Expedia (Australian site) on two separate occasions/airlines and once for accomodation booked through WebJet. In my case, this has earned me nearly 20.000 extra points.

Applied & approved on the spot within 3 mins

Card in hand 5 business days later

Off to hit the spend limit to get those points

Thanks AMEX (and AFF, as usual)

Applied & on-screen approval within 2-3 mins !

Is this for real ?

Fingers crossed

Cancelled the AMEX QF Premium card 2 months ago.

Damn, just readying myself to apply and looks like the offer has been dropped to 50,000 points.....

Took advantage of this offer and received my card about a week or so ago. While on online chat with Amex customer support, they casually mentioned my 50k points bonus - I tried to correct them, however it has to go through as an investigation. She asked if I had any evidence I received from Amex that it should be 100k, and I don't.

Does anybody happen to have a screenshot or anything of the like of the offer while it was at 100,000 points?

I'm sure it will be fine however want to be sure that it gets sorted, given my whole reason for getting the card was the large points bonus.

Cheers.

Not aware of the expiry date?

I'd wait a while as one of the other cards is due for an increased sign on bonus.

I've just checked and the referral links available here:

http://www.australianfrequentflyer....tas-ultimate-american-express-card-79436.html

still show the higher points for the offer.

Thought it was end of February but that's the Westpac offer. I need to add expiry dates of offers to my running spreadsheet!!

Thanks all.

Unfortunately that offer varies slightly from the one I signed up to. I was not aware of that referral link, so the bonus for me should be 100,000 points after spending $1500 in three months, not 110,000 points.

That is a mistake I hope you never make again- using a referral helps you and the AFF members link you followed.

AFAIK almost all direct American Express cards offer some sort of referral bonus

Not sure - went looking for amex DJ referrals - at 2.25 qantas points for $99/year its the best winner out there !
Could find any referral that gave any sort of bonus - although I did request and use a link - still think it was exactly what I could have got cold going straight to Amex

Sure, but not a mistake in my case as I hadn't heard of AFF at the time I applied for the card.

Well, the run is over. Thanks to those who took my referral offer. Thanks to that I earned another 100,000 points which made the annual fee very worthwhile.

How often does AMEX run the bonus points offering?

The bonus points for this card are still running, the bonus has just dropped to 80,000 now - that is still a lot of points

Lucky I applied!
Can someone advise if there is a thread or website which gives tips on the cheapest/easiest way to trigger the Qantas free flight

This thread has that info.

$50 QF voucher, tax on a classic award or [paying the carbon offset on anexisting booking*] are some that come to mind

*this is incorrect, paying the carbon offset does not trigger
