QF Booking Class?

It's still possible - they haven't exactly completely squirreled it away. But serfty will need to rewrite his script if he so desires.

I've managed to find the class codes by examining the source code for the engine pages. You can even get the tax amount (so far that's the only way I can find out the amount of taxes).

Looks like the changes to the booking engine now mean we aren't as easily able to determine the booking class before booking?
Yep,

the easy way of reading the source code or using my GM script is toast.

I have had a look at the coding and much is hashed/encoded so not readable by humans (or GM scripts that speak english).

I will work on it but don't hold yon breath.

...

Search the "Check" page source for the word "classes" rather than "class". The latter is now useless as a result of the web programming conventions now in use.

Happy searching so you can wander

OMG that's awesome, thanks.

Clarification for those wondering: in Firefox when you get to the "Flight bookings - review" page, ie the "Check" tab in the new "Select / check / book / pay" sequence, right click and empty part of the page and select "View page source".
Then search in the new window (Ctrl+F) for the text "classes" and immediately after that it will show you the classes for the booking.

ie:
"CLASSES":"M,S","FQTV_NUMBER_LIST":
In this example I am making a return booking and the first flight is in class M, the second return flight is in class S.

Thanks for that.

Here's the link a new GreaseMonkey script (please PM me with any errors or issues): qantas_booking_class.user.js

Thanks serfty. This is working, but forgive me if I have missed something..... it seems as though the new web site shows the fare class front and centre on the 'Check" page having selected flights and clicked 'Continue'.

Yep - click ok and review your options.

The code s are not available on the select page.

OK. In that case the message, "Click OK to continue or Cancel to reselect." is a bit misleading as I am not seeing a Cancel button. I assume the point of that is to take you back to the 'Select' page to choose different flights?

Screen shot shows what I am seeing for a dummy booking. Has QF now decided to show the fare bucket, where previously they didn't?

The fare class you have indicated in red is courtesy of the script.

As for the cancel bit I haved removed that, as the back button no longer worth with the qantas web site.

Please reload the script before rerunning.

Got it. Sorry, I hadn't appreciated that it was your script adding the fare class to the web page itself. I thought your script was mining the fare class from the HTML and then displaying it in the pop up, not altering the web page behind. My bad!!

Very clever, btw :)

For that that had the previous version of the script loaded I suggest you unstall that before loading this new one.

Thanks for this serfty - very helpful. Such a shame that Qantas still hasn't added this basic functionality (and direct links to fare rules for specific fare basis) in the revamp.

I've added it to the extension list in chrome (Settings / Extensions) as per the help page chrome has. But I can't seem to either open it up / use it or even add it to the other currently working extensions shown at the top of the screen (QFF, Avast, QFF points search).

What may I ask would / could I be doing wrong?

There does seem to be a bit a domestic fare class migration over the last six months or so. I seem to recall that semi-flexible used to be K class but now appears to be V class. Makes no difference to the QF FF members but does affect crediting to OW partners. E class is the normal low end offering with the occasional cheap O class.

Asia still seems to be the most generous with fare classes, especially Japan.

I'm certain someone else can add more.

Happy wandering

Re: QF Booking Class and Flightstats

I'm looking to fly QF107 to JFK on 2 Sept 2013 in economy. When I do a dummy booking (for a flight returning in December) and choose red e-deal the source code shows as
"SECTORS":"SYD/NYC,NYC/SYD","SEGMENT_ID":"1,2","FLIGHT_NUMBERS":"107,108","AIRLINE_CODES":"QF,QF",
"OPERATING_CODES":"QF,QF","NB_STOPS":"1,1","CLASSES":"N,Q",

That is class N (non upgradeable) on the outgoing flight.

However, flightstats.com shows W/4 R/3 T/0 Z/0 Y/9 B/9 H/9 K/9 M/9 L/8 V/9 S/9 N/0 Q/0 O/0 G/0 X/0 E/0
for this flight (ie no N class available). Does this mean that flightstats is not a reliable guide to
QF flight class availability?

No, it means that QF make more N availability to people booking online via Qantas.com.au in this case than through whatever source FS uses to obtain their information.

Qantas can vary availability based on various factors, including Country of Sale and booking entity.

Flightstats gives a USA view, Qantas website is showing it's particular OZ version.

Hi All

I have a sale fare from PER - LAX return in Class O. I realise this is not upgradeable as it is Discount Economy, however in the fine print on the Qantas website I noticed this:

~ Flight Upgrade Awards from selected discount Economy classes which are not normally eligible (for example N, Q and O class) may be offered on a selected basis for limited periods at the discretion of Qantas.

Would anyone know how I could find out more about this "selected basis limited period", is it worth giving Qantas a call?
