QF-EK broken promises

The earning hasn't entered into it for me, but I've redeemed a lot of QFF points for EK F at the same cost as if I were doing it on QF, with waaaaay more route options for doing so. And something like ADL to CPH in F on QF in less than a day? That was never going to happen.

I haven't flown QF metal nearly as much as I did, but I don't begrudge QF that.

Agree, the amount of FF redemption options has soared and on a much better airline than some of the oneworld alternatives.... Cough... BA

the promise was the best of the 2 airlines options. If one believes QF F is better than EK F (or was flying ex SYD where there was no longer F to SIN) then it is

I wish you luck in making the case that QF F is better than EK F.

And, when one uses EK F, your luggage actually comes of first, unlike last for QF (esp in Melbourne) :)

On my one and only F EK experience into MEL - bags for all 4 F pax were stone cold last. On my two F QF flights to MEL they were there when I got to the carousel (complete with F host on one occasion). Baggage is a bit different and less in the control of the airline in my experience and opinion.

Not to disagree with you. Just pointing out my experiences in MEL are different. And as a complete aside, I find domestic MEL baggage the slowest of any airport in Oz.

you'd think airlines could write it into their contracts with ground handling - some sort of KPI. It shouldn't be so hard!

You would think so. I have no idea why it is so hit and miss. QF consistently slow in MEL, and poor for priority in MEL and BNE. Fast in most other ports, with priority working well in CNS, ADL, PER and CBR. My experiences over the past 3 years only, with trips to SYD usually HLO.

Jennifer Aniston would be disappointed with QF F :)

In all seriousness, I was surprised how much better the EK F experience was than QF F, when I finally had a chance to sample both in quick succession.

I sampled EK F and Q F within a week of each other. We had a fabulous crew member on Qantas. I love the EK suites - just being able to shut everyone out. I think EK are ahead just for that reason.

Qantas were always going to pull out International from Adelaide. Emirates just made that easier but was not the compelling reason for the tie up. Obviously.

If I was A. Joyce I would or Should be worried reading such reports obviously it must bear some reality. The WiFi wars are coming next but a privacy suite on EK seems to be a winner.

Maybe. I should add I dont 'pay' for F. Each flight has either been an upgrade or an award flight. Maybe $ paying flyers have different needs.

As someone who does pay for F, I would rank Emirates ahead of QF, on everything except the bed. The private suites are really nice, although I don't mind the Qantas setup - once you swivel the seat I do feel quite private. The 747s were a different story, where you were very open. The Qantas bed is just so much more comfortable than the Emirates one. We are trying out SQ suites in October and it will be interesting to see what the bed is like. Obviously they have a private suite similar to EK. Then I want to try Etihad (Not the Residence - far too expensive for us :)).

As far as our needs go in F it is

1. The bed
2. The food (and Qantas is fine, but just nothing special)
3. Privacy
4. service (very hit and miss with Qantas)
5. Bubbly

Couldn't care less about wifi

I pay for our F flights. Occasional FF seat redemption (both through QF and EK) plus historical occasional upgrades. EK WPs get quite a raw deal in regards to upgrades. Flying as a QF WP on EK gives you a better chance of upgrades from J, but we don't take the risk anymore.:) I find the swivel seat on QF a little strange. Bling on EK we do not see anymore. Wines on EK usually better selection than QF (why don't they have better wines in F on QF?). Food is sometimes v good, generally ok but variable on both. EK crews are much faster in responding to bell calls and noise from crew in galley much lower on EK. QF sometimes seems like they are having a reunion party . Privacy, bathroom and shower on EK wins out. MrsTMA loves to close the door on EK and block out the world for some 10 hours. Me, on EK, a few Doms, wines and Henassay Paradis or 40 yo DOW's port and.....

We should try some other Fs I guess but A380s out of BNE with one stop to places like GLA, LRH, LGW (cheaper for outgoing taxes and easier access to the South), VIE, VCE, BLQ too tempting than with other airlines.

QF F is certainly very nice but I can't help but think they missed an opportunity with the A380s.
There is no wow factor.
Everything is incrementally nicer than business class* but there is no big distinguishing feature.
And no distinguishing feature for the Qantas brand either.
EK broke new ground with the showers and the bar.
EY took those and went further with the apartments - which are almost as nice as the unaffordable residence.
On the other hand EK took the Donald Trump/World Dictator approach to interior decorating.
Too much bling, fake gold and walnut burr.
But QF is so minimalist it seems ordinary, without a hint of luxury.
For my money EY has hit the right mid-point with modern, understated elegant luxury.
And their signature lighting touch of scattered geometric shapes is unmistakable but subtle branding.
Oh and I like wifi - nothing like being able to upload photos of dinner to instagram!

*Compared to contemporary business class offerings such as on the refurbed QF A330s. The skybeds on the QF A380s are so dated they have become substandard for business class.

So AJ might not be getting full a revenue flight either?(i.e. cash) Well done with the Upgrade
