But isn't IainF wanting to get from MEL back home to BNE?
IainF said:
... Is there any from MEL to BNE or SYD from INT terminal?
I took IanF's post to mean "from MEL to BNE or [MEL to] SYD".

One of the best of these for me was a few years ago when there was a nice evening BNE to MEL flight a couple of days a week, coming into BNE from POM. I took it a few times. :D

Ah but have you experienced it recently, this is the new and improved Qantas.
Does QF economy BNE-SIN in March count as recent experience? Or has there been enhancements since then?

Nothing wrong with going MEL-SYD-BNE, even with a free bus ride
Actually, nothing wrong with going MEL-PER-SYD-BNE.....:p

Specially if on a K or higher fare....

Last I checked there was no F lounge access in MEL for MEL-PER, which I thought was the intended purpose.

I thought the service on Int was better than Dom. So it would be a Qantas enhancement.

You know I wondered about this. In sydney the F lounge is international and airside right? So unless you were on an International flight between domestic cities it is not possible to visit? (I mean if you are travelling domestic here).

What about in Melbourne is the F lounge accessible by domestic passengers?

CL, WP & oneworld Emerald passengers taking a domestic sector of an international flight. e.g. QF73 when it goes MEL-SYD-SFO.

Yup - I've taken a few in my time (between SYD & CNS a specialty for the extra SCs), but serfty is a master at these flights.

QF73

Not that MEL's FL is much more than a pokey dungeon without any natural light. At least for the next few weeks.

And they don't use sealers to "re-cork" the self-serve Moet  I like bubbles in my bubbles!

PLUS - don't forget JQi flies SYD-MEL on a Monday, MEL-SYD on a Tuesday, next time they have a sale on...

I left the office early to ensure I could finish my work in the lounge nice and early.....

I have to admitt, first impressions are very good. Walking in along the featured plant wall, up the escalators, and with the curved bulkhead, you feel like you are on you way upstairs in an aircraft, presumably the A380. Plenty of staff to meet and greet, they even took my hand luggage away to be stored.

I have sat down for lunch, and it all looks very good. Just had the best burger in a long time, albiet gourmet. Every one is giving complements to the staff on the new lounge in the cafe/restaurant.

the feel of the lounge is quite hip, finishes are very good, and overall design 9.5/10. The carpet in the photo's does not do it justice, it must be seen to appreciate.

I will give another update later once I have 'done the tour' and used more of the facilities (after my work is done of course).

First report from the new FLounge, and it sounds good :D . So what was the wine list like for lunch (not that is my main priority of course ;) )?

I trust the MEL FLounge will be just as good, can't wait for my first visit next month.

Thanks for the running update Jason.

I am sitting in the MEL domestic lounge now (enjoying a Blue Tongue) and looking out at the new International FLounge that I plan to experience in 5 days time. Will be interesting to see how similar it is to the SYD lounge.

Bugger burger, I do not recall that on the menu that was in the Australian Way inflight magazine.
Well it looks like I am going to need to do a lot more flying to get to WP status, and it looks like we are just going to tender for a house:( . Cannot do both so I better talk to Mrs Altair....
Oh can someone post the menu on offer, I wonder if it changes? Also as I am actually a vegetarian, is there "special meal requests" on the menu?

Thanks Jason. Never mind work, please get to the important stuff (ie booze).

I should be able to compare directly in a week and a half (visits to both MEL & SYD F lounges by then).

O.K guys, just quickly in between calls and emails.......

Bar is not fully stocked yet it appears, and no wine list to copy... Spirits seem to be standard fare, with nothing special... J.W Black, Balentines, Jack Daniels, Tanqeray, Hennesy etc.

Only three of each wines offered with lunch (bl#$dy fantastic burger, did I mention that?!?:p ), I did not have a chance to sample, although I opted for the G&T (lovely...arhhh) when they said there was no sparkling mineral water:lol: .

There is a manned bar for spirits (no more self service...hic) and self serve beer fridges, Crownies, James Squire, Heinies, and three varieties of Cascade. Table service exists, just not as fast as my thirst...........

Ammenites are quite nice, just up to the latest international standards I guess. Although I must say that I cannot really compare this to any lounge that I visit, quite different. Albiet only comparing with Asia.

I do like the old style schedule boards, nice touch. No time to ask about the spa or use the games area, next time, when I get to show Mrs Jasonja3 the perks of my travel, although that might be dangerous!!!

**EDIT**
Interestingly enough, they always ask for your name or boarding pass for food and drinks. Hmmmmm

There are healthy and Vegge options. I don't know about special requests.

Hope that has improved by Sunday when I will be there.....

Hopefully that is only to check you have enough time to eat before boarding and not to keep track of consumption. Just imagine you get given a bill on the way out!
