QF Platinum Denied Lounge on Arrival with Qantas Sydney Airport

In all my years as a Platinum, I have only used arrivals access ONCE at a QF lounge. Do a lot of people use it regularly?

Yes, although the visits are brief. As mentioned in earlier posts, it’s useful for a pit stop before an onward drive, to use internet, or even grab a quick breakfast after an overnight flight. A factor is having to collect bags from the carousel.

Yes, same here - especially for a quick coffee, use the work area to send off emails I've done on the flight, last minute prep for meetings etc

I have used it a lot. Often for a quick pit stop, but also longer stints as part of a planned schedule.

Last time was for some hours back in March - arrived overnight from SIN into MEL, had a shower and then connected to work while waiting for an colleague to arrive. We departed Midday.

(In fact that was the last time I flew Qantas. )

Never have used. Get to destination get out of the airport the fastest I can.

I do see a role for it for a tiny minority of people though, clearly as this thread rants on

Not necessarily a tiny minority. As with others who have responded here, it has been a bonus for me, from time to time, to be able to drop in for a few minutes to use the facilities before onward travel or to wait for someone connecting from another flight.

Definitely a valued benefit for me - unlike extra baggage allowance, for example, which I have never even contemplated using in many years of travel.

I’m pretty certain it is a tiny minority though, I’d guess of every 100 WP’s arriving into a port I suspect you’d be lucky if 1 used arrival access when they landed.... but to be fair without QF releasing that information we are all guessing but I suspect it is a tiny minority of WP’s usuing the benefit and a tiny minority of total lounge visits, logically I suppose.

This isn’t to say it isn’t valued by that tiny minority!

It’s good to have that benefit in my pocket, I’ve used it about a half dozen times, to avoid the airport toilets or grab a coffee. I’m never interested in anything other than a very quick pit stop when at my destination.

Arrivals access is VERY useful when you have arrived on international and want to have a shower and breakfast before heading off; I have done this regularly over the years. Losing this would be a major negative for me,

At MEL or PER? Otherwise you'll have to make your way to the domestic terminals in SYD or BNE...

I see businesses, even little coffee shops, that have the QR code at the entrance. Too hard for QF lounges it seems.

Suspect it is highly dependent on port and time of arrival. Weekends/leisure destinations, I would agree with you, whereas early morning weekday flights to business hubs will often have a cohort of WP/P1s from rows 4-8 heading straight for the lounge on arrival.

I have only used it once in the 5-6 years I was a WP, I was hungry after coming off a domestic flight from SYD on which I had a international flight with tight connection time in SYD so no time to lounge. I went in for for a quick (decent) coffee and some pastries.

Perhaps..... I only really do the corporate golden triangle routes early AM and then after work peak flights and I just see people bolting for the limo/cab/uber pick up areas, but thats my experience. Anyway regardless of how few people use this benefit, its clearly valued by some AFF's!

I was denied access last week in MEL. The lady at the front desk was extremely courteous and apologetic that my "usual benefit" wasn't available this time, but she did say it was only Melbourne that was affected. Clearly the communication internally has been just as poor as it has been with customers...

I'm in the camp who finds this one of the biggest benefits of Platinum and would be annoyed if it were removed. While I'm rarely in there for more than 15 minutes after arrival, I'd much rather use the lounge loo and sit to have a (quality) coffee while waiting for bags to arrive. And we all know what Qantas baggage handling is like most of the time...
