QF to Europe returns to the Kangaroo Route (via SIN)

At least this move should see flights return to some sort of 'normality' schedule-wise. Dubai seemed to be prone to delays, cancellations, stranding pax. SIN never seemed to have those problems?
 
Is anyone going to say "I'm gonna miss Dubai" .. or not ?

As for me ... never been, never wanted to, never going to now. I switched alliances to keep my Asian options open. Been gone too long now to switch back.

If I want to fly direct internationally there is still no choice. But then I enjoy Dubai and the EK lounges. So that's a 'yes' from me. Not sure how you can judge if you've never been.

I avoided Dubai for two reasons. Cultural desert and human rights. I realize others never saw those as issues. And that some of the alternatives are not exactly bastions of human rights either.

Two QF flights a day to Dubai versus several flights to SIN will make a big difference. The biggest risk of being stranded would probably relate to the SIN-LHR leg as there's only one QF service a day doing that route. Once you're in SIN coming home there should be plenty of options to get back.
 
I am excited about trips to SIN again... I like booking QF via the A380... I do know you can book with Emirates
 
As always if there are delays having high status would help. Though if it's a peak time and services are fully booked there still could be some bad delays.

The worst delays happen at peak times when loads are high and no planes can be pulled out of routine maintenance because there's no routine maintenance being done as all the planes can be filled pretty full.
 
Not sure QF would want to encourage PER passengers to connect in SIN onto LHR when they want them to fly direct. If lots of PER based customers shun the direct PER-LHR service and fly to LHR via SIN I can't see the PER-LHR service lasting too long.

But QF doesn't want PER PAX to fly this route. They want PAX from MEL to fill these aircraft.
 
Surprised no one has mentioned this yet, but today's announcement means pax flying to any of the four major Australian cities have a choice of TWO departure times from LHR entirely on QF aircraft AND with one stop at most. This is a real plus in my books - it would not have been possible if DXB continued to be the stopover point.

Well if QF's claiming to travel agents that passengers will be able to fly one stop to LHR via SIN from MEL on QF metal is accurate that will reduce the demand from MEL to go via PER considerably I would think. Old J seats or not, the flight lengths are better going via SIN than going via PER even though there would be a longer gap between flights in SIN in one direction.

Look at the fares, never mind the award redemption availability.
It is clearly being marketed to MEL not PER.
 
The PER fares are higher partially because there's no competition flying direct non-stop PER-LHR. If people will pay extra for the convenience of direct non-stop then QF will take that money.
 
Overall a great development, even for someone in Sydney!
I think having first the short leg (to SIN) and then the long leg (SIN to LHR) is much better than the Dubai arrangement.
Plus, Singapore is so much more attractive as a stopover destination than Dubai.

One aspect / benefit for Qantas has not really been mentioned: By going via SIN, the lounge costs for QF should be much less than via DXB. While First/Platinum pax might like the EK First lounge (I do), I think it is clear that it will cost Qantas much less to have pax use its own SIN lounge than to pay EK for the lounge usage in DXB.

Well people have said that they reckon the QF Lounge in SIN will be quite inadequate for F passengers as it currently stands. Also in a FLounge WP passengers get looked after a lot better than they do in a combined J/F Lounge.

In a combined lounge (eg SIN/HKG) WP are treated the same as QP pax. Hopefully QF will do something about that.

It seems my flight next March that was to be the last QF9 via DXB will actually be one of the last QF flights via DXB - period.

There were no internet rumours about this that I'm aware of.

In October and December they again suggested that Qantas could resume one-stopping via Asia (but not naming Singapore specifically). It would be interesting to know if they had inside information or if it was just informed speculation.

Talking with a First Host, whi is always spot on the money and I respect, it was confirmed that the Flight will start from Melbourne International then across to Perth. The feeling s that QF9 May end up going via Singapore or dropped all together and the aircraft deployed elsewhere.
