QF to Europe returns to the Kangaroo Route (via SIN)

Oneworld elites in DXB can access other lounges operated by oneworld carriers (eg. BA). Oneworld elites never had access to the EK lounge; only QF elites.
The BA lounge is a bit of a walk from Concourse A, and that was before the non QF/EK airlines were moved to Concourse D.

The alliance extension isn't confirmed. This announcement just says that QF/EK will be applying for an extension.
I wonder if the ACCC (or any other international equivalents which have an interest) will say anything about the changes, or just rubber stamp a 5 year extension.

OW elites had EK lounge access whenever they were flying QF (both code & metal). As of course QF is a OW airline. However only QF elites got EK lounge access when on EO with QF code

But was that not due to class of service, rather than being a oneworld elite?

For example, an AA EXP flying QF-coded EK in Y didn't receive lounge access, correct?

They will have to significantly improve the ground facilities for F pax at SIN IMHO. The current CL/P1 tables will absolutely not cut it.
I'm ambivalent about this. On the one hand I love the longer leg into LHR on arrival but I will miss the DXB Flounge. It's far, far superior to the QF SIN Lounge or the BA one.

It was/is a special arrangement for OneWorld elites flying on the QF operated and marketed flights i.e. QF1/2/9/10. Not for any flights with an EK flight number and/or operated by EK. As QF won't be flying to DXB anymore there won't be any QF marked and operated flights to have this special arrangement on anymore.

The 2019 date is the last date that was given publicly. However, it seems likely that the airport has told the airlines something different.

The delay was probably due to the delay in approval for the third runway - but they've got that now. T5 will definitely be expanded (confirmed this year) and you'd have to think ow, especially AA will be the frontrunners to move in.

If there is any JV between QF and BA on the SYD-LHR route that would surely move QF to the top of the list.

So probably not 2019 but probably not 2029 either.

fantastic news - i wonder if they weighed up all the bad press and complaints about irrops at DXB and thought it was easier just to give people what they wanted

does seem like everybody is a winner here

I've found the food to be very inferior to what's offered in the QF FLounges. Typically there's not long in DXB so a meal is rushed and no time to have a shower as well.

I completely disagree. The a la carte dining in DXB F is at least as good and in many respects far, far better than the QF F lounges. The wine list also puts QF to shame.

Maybe I've just chosen the wrong items on the menu most times. I guess it does come down to personal taste. If QF does a FLounge in SIN and gets it right that would be fantastic.

Like anyone I hate longhaul flights in Y - but would people seriously prefer to route through SIN - when SIN-LHR is 13.5 hours anyway? For the sake of an extra 3-4 hours you can go direct - saving quite a few hours and the need for a stop. I could kind of understand if the stop was halfway (say DXB) but with SIN so much closer to PER I just don't understand why anyone would do that. It's kind of like flying SYD-LAX via AKL. Yeah a 17 hour flight sucks but so does a 13 hour flight - especially when you have to transfer to another 5.5 hour flight.

Horses for courses. I am sure some pax will fly PER-SIN-LHR, perhaps with a SIN stopover, in preference to 17+ hours in Y PER-LHR. When QF flew SYD-AKL-LAX I did in fact always choose that route in preference to SYD-LAX direct, just to get out of the Y metal tube and sit in the QP for a few hours along the way, even though the total time on board was longer.

With the curfew in SYD mid afternoon is the best time for the SYD-LHR service to depart from SYD.

It's going to be a shame to not have a QF A380 service departing late evening from MEL anymore. Evening visits to the QF FLounge are the best time to visit imo and an evening departure from AU for a leisure traveller is a lot better than arriving in LHR early in the morning.

I have to agree with PF here. I get off the plane in Dxb ASAP, whiz (well try to anyway) through security and head to the showers in the Emirates F lounge for a quick shower. As I approach the dining area, I tell the host I'm in a hurry and order a medium rare steak even before I sit down, and then get a nice French red after looking at the wine menu...all in under an hour :). The reds in the Emirates F lounge are way superior to what is served in the QF F lounge in Syd. I for one will miss the Emirates F lounge in Dxb. I have one last hurrah in Nov :)

I'm there later this month and again in October, very much looking forward to it :)

I'll have one last trip via DXB later this year. Part of my impetus to book was thinking there'd be no option to fly the QF A380 from MEL to LHR anymore from late March next year.

Looking forward to flying via SIN if QF allows appropriate options to be booked.

The lounge has not long been 'enhanced'. Ain't going to happen.

I'm another in agreement with Princess Fiona. Very much disliked the Sin lounge and posted as such in a live TR and TommyV advised we moved lounges.

DXB F lounge on the other hand is excellent. Quiet. Spacious. No kids running around.
