They will probably "enhance" the CL/P1 tables and make them CL/P1/"QF F" tables.
I suspect you may well be correct but I imagine any enhancement they could do there would still be far below that expected for F pax either in transit or on departure and again well beneath the current offering at DXB.

I agree. I think they should do a FLounge, but they've given every indication that that's unlikely to happen so far.

If they really do get MEL-LHR direct non-stop up and running in 2022 then the arrangement to fly via SIN will only last 4/4.5 years. They would probably have asked themselves whether they'd get a good return on their investment especially considering any new FLounge probably wouldn't be open for a fair while after the increased services to SIN start meaning it would be needed for less time. But it would be surprising to see flights direct non-stop to LHR from SYD/MEL that soon.

Not sure QF would want to encourage PER passengers to connect in SIN onto LHR when they want them to fly direct. If lots of PER based customers shun the direct PER-LHR service and fly to LHR via SIN I can't see the PER-LHR service lasting too long.

According to skyscanner

  • There are 58 flights a week from Perth to Singapore Changi
  • The most popular airline flying from Perth to Singapore Changi last month was Singapore Airlines
  • $242 was the cheapest return price from Perth to Singapore Changi last month
  • The average flight time from Perth to Singapore Changi is 5h
  • 4 airlines fly direct from Perth to Singapore Changi

So PER customers have at least Emirates and Singapore Airlines for LHR flights.

The PER-LHR QF flights will succeed only if QF grows the market or passengers switch from other carriers to QF. Routing SYD flights through Singapore gives QF "two bob each way", so to speak.
 
I wonder if the PER-LHR 787 service was possibly used as a significant bargaining chip to show intent in the JV extension discussions..? :rolleyes:

I was thinking the same thing. I wonder if QF didn't do that if they could have been locked in still to flying via DXB.
 
I think as someone posted elsewhere, at the moment EK is happy to be able to send a few more frames Australia's way.

And at the same time this hurts SQ and VA

I hope I'm wrong and that QF opens a FLounge in SIN but I'm not holding my breath.

The things I like about the DXB J and FLounges are the boarding gates within the lounge and the generous size of the toothpaste in the bathrooms. I've found the food to be very inferior to what's offered in the QF FLounges. Typically there's not long in DXB so a meal is rushed and no time to have a shower as well.
I have really enjoyed the food in the EK F lounge, definitely haven't found it inferior - probably the other way round. Excellent service as well. The QF F lounge is a very beautiful, but can be a bit of a zoo and service very patchy - not like it was when it opened in 2007.
 
Love this change. Most of my trips to the UK are to MAN. Now to decide if QF via LHR, or Finnair via HEL or Qatar via DOH. I could end up doing A380-A350-B787. :):)
 
The points and SCs SYD-SIN-LHR are the same as SYD-DXB-LHR. As to how that's broken up SYD-SIN and SIN-LHR we'll have to wait and see.

That should have been "were", for those who did fly the route at the time. Anyway, I had a look and it was 240.
In any case, your post was not useful nor did it answer the question. Just saying.

It was 240/180 instead of the current 150/270 with the old QF1/9 SYD/MEL-LHR being 360!
 
Apologies if I wasn't clear. What I'm saying is that post #41 suggests that the earn rate for SYD-SIN-LHR will be what SYD-DXB-LHR is now. QF is yet to update their calculator to reflect the return to flying SYD-SIN-LHR.
 
Having literally just schlepped through my least favourite airport Dubai I'm joining in the chorus of celebrations for everything in this announcement and know the days of visiting Dubai are now numbered :) (or at least drastically reduced!)
 
Is anyone going to say "I'm gonna miss Dubai" .. or not ?

As for me ... never been, never wanted to, never going to now. I switched alliances to keep my Asian options open. Been gone too long now to switch back.
 
Some already have said that they'll miss having the stop in DXB. If you're only somewhere between flights the lounge experience can be what matters most to a lot. If you're looking to stop somewhere for a few days then other factors come into play.
 
This seems a huge win for Emirates and a big loss to all QF loyalists who fly to Europe (but not London)

Previously, Qantas pax from MEL/SYD flying to Europe could fly 14hrs on QF metal to DXB and then Another few hours on EK to their EU/Nth Africa/Middle East destinations - one stop.
After the change, EK pickup all the aussie European/Nth Africa/Middle East pax on the MEL/SYD-DXB legs (that previously may have been on QF metal). EK only give up Aussie pax to London, which they never really had and didn't need. EK already have a gazillion flights per day to the UK.

Yes, it is a little win for those UK bound Pax who didn't like the DXB airport, but really, how does this help loyal Qantas pax going to Europe. No wonder EK agreed to this, they just won a bucket load of aussie pax to fill their planes from Australia-DXB enroute to Europe.

If I want to fly direct internationally there is still no choice. But then I enjoy Dubai and the EK lounges. So that's a 'yes' from me. Not sure how you can judge if you've never been.

Were passengers to abandon PERTH-LHR. watch the price tumble.

Im sure they can do better than $7,500 business when the opposition offer $4,500.

It might be obvious one one can still BOOK QF ON EK metal.
there was some news commentary I can't find which mentioned PAX on QF METAL flew all the way to LHR in vast % so didn't stopover in Dubai. So it's no loss to the PAX to switch routing.....
