QF to Europe returns to the Kangaroo Route (via SIN)

That's kind of a red herring.

From memory flights continuing after Dubai on EK don't have a QF flight number.

It isn't a red herring as you aren't correct about QF codeshares stopping at DXB.

With the current MEL-LHR A380 rotation, 1 will service MEL-SIN daily but that leaves at least 1 more A380 spare - where will that go? HKG perhaps?

Look up QF 8085 for just one..... DBX-ZUR

Ours wasn't. I was correct in what I said from our experience and booking. So a red herring for us.
It depends where in Europe you're going. Some EK flights have QF codeshares, others don't.

Thanks. I checked and our flight into Europe was booked via Qantas but EK code share after Dubai.

No you aren't correct in your statement in general. In some cases you are only able to book the EK code on the leg out of DXB, but it doesn't mean that it relates to other destinations and/or the lounge access page statement is a red herring.

SYD to HKG sounds most likely. Would enable a 747 to be retired or moved to a different route.

So maybe someone with too much time on their hands could see just how many flights have QF code past DXB. Then we could see whether my experience is more 'general' than you think, and that is an EK code past DXB - in this case to Venice.

Would be nice to have a F route to HKG again, even better if they would then go onto LHR but no slots at LHR plus yields would not support three flights a day to LHR

I assume it's like any other partner.

Not every AA flight out of LAX and DFW has QF codes (and the QF codes can sell out forcing you on to AA codes)
Not every BA flight out of LHR has QF codes
Not every EK flight out of DXB has QF codes

Qantas needs some form of government approval/air rights for the code
Despite the old logo, this is dated August 2017.

https://www.qantas.com/flightinfo/qf_pdfTimetable.pdf

Note the codes are Qantas codes where *is listed but also represent operating carrier.

So Vienna-Dubai EK8136 actually means QF8136 operated by EK (who's code is EK136 for the flight)

But it doesn't help on answering what EK flights don't carry the code

There are heaps.

I have not read all 28 pages to this thread, so my questions might have been answered in an earlier post.

The Qantas advice to TAs states:

"Are there any other changes to Singapore services along with the QF1/QF2 change? From 25 March 2018:
• The QF1/QF2 A380 service will operate Sydney–London via Singapore, which is an upgrade of an existing Sydney–Singapore A330 service.
• The daily QF81/QF82 Sydney–Singapore A330 service will not change.
• The daily Qantas QF35/36 Melbourne–Singapore service will be upgraded from an A330 to an A380.
• The three per week QF37/QF38 Melbourne–Singapore service will increase to a daily service."

Does this mean the new QF1/2 flights will replace the QF5/6 flights?
And if so, does that free-up an A330 for use elsewhere?

The answers are within your post!

By process of elimination - obviously it is replacing QF5/6, as QF81/82 isn't changing.

And if so, does that free-up an A330 for use elsewhere?

Well there's the A330 from QF5/6 and the one from QF35/36 - but they need one on QF37/38.
So that's 1.5 A330s spare, based on these flights.

We were hoping to get FF tix Sydney-Dubai-Nairobi next August (esp with those seats opening up now) with our many Qantas points. So question is: what is the best way to get to Nairobi now? Will we still be able to get Emirates seats using Q points? Using the Emirates FF program gives less points exchange, is my understanding.

Yes, full services are still available with EK. They will remain an FF partner of QF's. Nothing is changing in that respect except you won't be able to fly on an actual Qantas aircraft between Australia and Dubai.
