QF to Europe returns to the Kangaroo Route (via SIN)

The Perth to London route now means Adelaide residents had what they did before that is one stop to London all on Qantas. You should actually be happy.

Not so much of a problem, although I did think I articulated myself pretty clearly: which is that we are a major city in Australia yet don't have any option to fly out of the country on QF metal (and a widebody at that). From an av geek perspective I'm sure one can appreciate my preference of getting on a A330 and then swapping to an A380 in SIN (which is still an option with SQ) over a domestic 737 to PER and then a 787. For the record I'm pleased with ADL-PER-LHR and will likely give it a go some time next year.
 
Given PER doesn't even get a 330 to SIN, I can't see ADL ever getting a QF one (maybe a 737).

But connections to/from QF9/10 look good, and as the aircraft will be using the current Qantas terminal (T3/4) you won't need four hours

Sure won't. But that's the gap between latest dom connection from ADL. It does look like an option though.

For last week of March. Will shift slightly into April.

QF595 ADL 1715 - PER 1805 possibly pull it forward by 15min
QF9 PER 1850 - LHR 0510 789

QF10 LHR 1330 - PER 13:15 789
But that has current issues
QF592 PER 1255 - ADL 1815 everyday
QF810 PER 1430 - ADL 1950 good but only mon/fri
QF584 PER 1705 - ADL 2225 everyday

So some changes needed to make it ideal
 
Fixing a previous mistake will take a while. We never wanted to stop anywhere other than Singapore and it was surprising that a pullout of Singapore occurred for the Kangaroo Route.
 
I just typed in some random dates into the booking engine and for Tuesday August 7th 2018 in PE it came up with going via Singapore ex Melbourne with QF37:

Who knows. The changes have freed up an A330.....


(Title of this thread seems a bit funny - being via SIN or DXB its still the Kangaroo route either way....)

QF5/6 fits in between the QF107/108 rotations, so unless the replacement flights fit into the same timings, it doesn't necessarily free up an A330.
 
I was living in Darwin when QF81/82 went ADL-DRW-SIN. It was a very popular way to get to Adelaide and many DRW PAX used it to start international journeys.

However it it suggests to me that even back then there wasn't the market to justify a dedicated QF service from ADL to SIN (I know many local ADLians used EK or MY).

Eventually QF removed the DRW stop (same time Jetstar started flying CNS-DRW-SIN) but the former didn't last very long and the latter is gone now too.

My point is, QF is a business and if there's a market to be served and make a profit, they will service it. It obviously hasn't been profitable for them.

More likely that they wanted Emirates to handle it. Emirates - daily flights. Singapore Air - daily flights. Fiji Air - several times a week. ANZ - several times a week. Malaysian - several times a week. Qatar - several times a week. JQ - several times a week. China Southern - several times a week.

Only Qantas couldn't make it work.

If I lived in Adelaide, I would not bother with Qf!

They will do something with the aircraft that is freed up by the removal of QF5/6. I have no insight into what, but they surely won't leave the aircraft sitting on the ground.

I agree and we did look at shifting to Virgin. Which would mean SQ and AirNZ partnerships. But for business their times suck. Particularly coming back to Adelaide.

And this is my point. ADL had the service and the locals didn't use it - so don't cry that Qantas is neglecting Adelaide.

And you know that how? Or just your own speculation. I suspect they just didn't want to put the larger upgraded planes to route through here to Singapore and the EK alliance gave them the easy option.

International tourism from Adelaide was up over 11% the year before the decision and at the time was the fastest growing capital in Australia. Yet Qantas kept reducing seat availability (flights) from Adelaide for the period prior so clearly it was a strategy on their part.

Read through this thread, I'm not getting:
- the hate for DXB - as airports go it's OK, and as mentioned the lounges are quite decent, with at least proper champagne, when the QF lounge in HK for example just has aussie bubbly (unless that's changed, been using CX lounges instead). And the massive network to Europe in 2 hops from MEL/SYD making it the best option time-wise, as well as in a lot of cases arriving in Europe late afternoon, making it better for recovery, at least for me.

I really hope they'll update the rules for lounge access in DXB, as the QF code-share on EK metal come at a premium compared to booking with EK directly, and as noted you can't code share everywhere. Plus when booking EK metal you can have a chance to pay for an upgrade on check in, which is not allowed if flying on QF code share. Not always cheap, but nice to have as an option.

The lounge in SIN ain't that flash and way too crowded, but that's already been well covered here.

And if you want to go to Europe but avoid transiting in LHR, now you're pretty much stuffed if you hope to get an upgrade on points on QF metal for the 12-14h leg, which up to now was AU-DXB, and in the future will not be available, as only AU-SIN on QF metal will be upgradeable.

That said SIN does open up Finnair, and by all accounts transit in HEL is a breeze.

The main reason I like the 380/747 over the 330s is that W is available and there are the side storage bins upstairs.

The A380 seats are pretty good. Much better for couples that want to chat than the A330 and if a couple wants to sit right next to each other and have a window 2-2-2 is better than 1-2-1. As a solo traveller I find a centre aisle seat is fantastic and if I had to have a middle seat I could climb past the passenger next to me if I had to. The A380 has Premium Economy and First Class neither of which you'll find on the A330. The chances of getting an upgrade to a better seat are higher than what they would be on an A330.

Some people flying J/F fly it because they want to sit in the seat they've paid for rather than stand around at a bar. They also want to be able to sleep without hearing a lot of noise from a rowdy bar.

That is a significant drawback, but status and access to OneWorld lounges should help a little with that.

Fortunately I anticipate almost always wanting to go to LHR when visiting that region of the world so it's not a big issue for me, but I can understand it's a concern for those that don't.
