QF to Europe returns to the Kangaroo Route (via SIN)

That is a pretty decent discount for the F flights. I'm surprised they feel the need to offer one so soon. But not surprised it came after the DSC.

Am tempted to book for a holiday in June next year. But even at $10k - and the likelihood it would get me close to retaining P1 again - QF just doesn't seem to be a good F spend. EK makes it better, but as I prefer to stop en route DXB would be too hot for my liking at that time.

Pity there's been no suggestion of an improved F experience (eg, food) and confirmation that the lounges in SIN will not cater for F pax.

I probably should save my money anyway.
I know! I was tempted to go and book something just because it was so cheap, but controlled myself. :)
 
For flying F at this point I'll either go on points or take my chances in the upgrade lottery.

Plus, rather than Oz to Europe, book EK from Europe to Oz return to save 25-50% on F.
 
Just on this J/F sale, it appears to match or be part of an EK "earlybird sale" so I suspect that's what is driving this, not specifically related to the recent DSC offer booking window, though it is conveniently outside of it.

I think you will find a few once in a lifetime travelers, first time travelers and the older generation, will welcome the east coast - Perth - LHR flights as well (as long as the price is competitive). It takes the hassle of transit and being in an 'unfamiliar' country, not speaking the local language, having local currency which can turn people off, or cause some extra stress. I know a few people who don't travel very often would welcome this.

Everyone on here likes and enjoys travelling and generally would travel more than the generally population, we know transiting in SIN is easy and will prefer that route and we care that this flight is an A380 rather than a 330 and such, as said before most people don't even know what plane they are on. They want to feel safe and comfortable and minimise any stress and a generally competitive price and a non-stop Aus to LHR will provide this.

I was initially thinking this would be good to have extra capacity between SIN & MEL - my place of residence and my "home town". But after reflection, for pure selfish reasons, I'm no not liking it , as the A380 service leaves to early ex-MEL (where the extra seats will be), and the latter service QF37, which is better timed for short stays in Australia, will probably be filled with connecting pax to QF1. When I took QF37 a couple of weeks ago, it looked to be full of Singaporeans (admittedly this was on the last day of long weekend) - I can see that market being difficult to retain if people are going to have to leave MEL at midday - which wastes a whole day away. Of course works better for those on the AU end ...
 
Going via PER or taking the A380 service via SIN I'll have to take leave. Currently with QF9 departing late night I can get a full day's work in and then shortly after leave for the airport.

If one books SYD- BCN (for example) in April a choice is given. QF 1 to LHR and BA to BCN or SYD- Dubai- BCN ON Emirates. Looks like the Auld Alliance is returning

May I hypothesize that this is you Princess Fiona??? It certainly sounds like a very points savvy traveler indeed!

I totally agree with her. It’s exactly my thoughts. Good thing maybe that QI doesn’t fly out of Adelaide. I see they are now offering as first preference the flight to Perth then onwards. Not going to happen. This May we used Award points to fly J Qatar to Venice then Budapest to Adelaide all on points. Going to enjoy the Business lounge in Doha :). No F in Qatar on the Adelaide leg.

I really hate the Sin-Aus short flight. Any thoughts of sleep go out the door. I try get some sleep by avoiding meal service but the cabin is noisy anyway. Clink clink clink. And early morning arrival after 6 hours is the pits. On both EK and QR you arrive in the night and can start with a sleep then a new day. Can’t see us ever going through Sin unless that’s our destination.

SIN-LHR arriving in the morning will be much better. Can't please them all.
Or, fly QF to LHR via SIN and EK/EY/QR back to Australia ;)

Sure. But somehow if it’s the beginning of a jaunt that is more acceptable rather than as a finale. You feel wrecked when you get home, sad it’s over and well, kind of depressed.

Not entirely true, DXB to LHR is an hour of so longer so does give the opportunity for a better sleep than SIN-MEL. It's why I always preferred Hong Kong as the transit point as it splits the journey more evenly.

You have made a mistake and quoted the wrong post because I did not mention SIN-MEL.
It was DXB-LHR vs SIN-LHR.
If you want to bring up a new point, go ahead, but do not make the error of incorrect quoting.

My point was the short leg of DXB-LHR is longer than the short leg of SIN-MEL and hence not as painful or sleep depriving.
Not the wrong quote, not the wrong post.
 
I loved the 9's 11pm departure arriving into DXB 7am some 14 hours later. I will miss it.

I'm of the view that the Singapore timing is far superior to the DXB arrangements for the return flight.

The flights depart the UK in the late evening. You're likely already tired when boarding. With the DXB option, you're interrupted after 6 hours, and then need to do the bleary eyed stagger through DXB airport after maybe 3-4 hours sleep, when your body feels like it's 4am.

Unlike Singapore, DXB dumps you straight into security after you get off the plane. And if your first sector is EK, there's always the chance of a dreaded remote stand, exacerbating the transit hassles.

With the Singapore routing, you get on that late evening flight at Heathrow, and you have a solid 13-14 hour uninterrupted sector, allowing a truly solid rest period. You can get off the plane and go straight to the lounge and not see another security line until just prior to boarding the next flight.

Timing wise, the DXB option that I find *does* work is the EK414 flight. This has you departing Europe around 2pm in the afternoon, meaning that the first sector is essentially a day leg. You then do the 14 hour stint when you feel like sleeping, and you get into Sydney at 1030pm, so you can go home and crash in your own bed.
