Well I have not flown on classic Y awards, mrsdrron certainly would not be agreeable to do it in 2014 so how is it a positive for us?
What got me annoyed was this was promoted as an exciting developement when clearly for a few of us it is of no benefit at all.
So I am not saying the promotion is negative.I am saying that for some it is not positive. But the worst part for me and obviously several others here it was over hyped.

It's a POSITIVE enhancement.... simple as that.

Re: QANTAS Classic awards to Status Credits

Some people would rather fly overseas on points twice rather than once in J. Is that a waste?
.

As my previous post alluded to, I do agree with you. There are scenarios where Y classic awards are a complete and utter waste. That is where you a) are a person who shops for basic needs in supermarkets or b) runs a vehicle and has to buy petrol to fuel the vehicle. If you can buy the same flights (excluding taxes) for less than $6.50 per 1000 pts you spend, then better off converting into Woolworths/Caltex vouchers, and paying cash for the flights, and this promo will not make any difference to that! Anyone who can negotiate the expedia.com.br website and wants to fly into Asia, probably would be wasting their points using them for classic awards, promo or not ;)

Its one of those promotions that may not suit a lot of people in this group, but there are plenty of people who will gain something from it.

How was it over hyped? Certainly not by Qantas - who didn't even email to tell me (or any of the other 4 QF members's email accounts I look after) about it. Like all Qantas offers, it will be relevant to some and not others...

Not for me.That should be also simple to understand.

It should be simple to understand that its a positive enhancement to the program whether you use that feature of the program or not.

Also there was no hype. Only an email mentioning a way to earn scs on award flights was coming up

It was not long ago you could book a seat in Y (X) at classic points level online and earn SCs anytime. It used to be called an Any Seat Award. Oh how I miss those days ;)

Read post 50 from red roo.Exciting to me is hype.
And all I have said is it is not positive for me.
Really cant understand the attacks from that simple true statement.

Firstly ... to me it is not an enhancement - to me an enhancement is something going forward, and in relation to airline Frequent Flyer programs generally represent a downgrading of benefits in relation to previous levels.

I see it as a promotion - often such promotions may benefit some more than others.

To me this promotion is of almost neutral benefit, although today I did book an economy award, MEL-ASP. The 15 SC's may come in handy but the ~14K cost saved $210, so on the lower limit of QFF point value for me.

It isn't wasting points. It's only your perception on wasting points.

Example I may fly Mel-SYD on a classic award, I won't bother going J so won't try for an ASA. Is that a waste?
I redeemed Qantas points once for a domestic flight to go to Ozfest in BNE in 2006 at the last minute. I wanted to play golf in the morning in SYD and the airfare on the 2:00pm, or thereabouts, flight was ~$239 in economy or 8,000 QFF points and ~$29. It was a no brainer to book the classic award ticket.

The value is in what the end user decides. Some will only use them in premium cabins, some will use then to maximize the number of trips they can do.

Don't belittle people because they use their points differently to you. They aren't using them incorrectly. They might see using then in J or F as a waste too.
I think some people like to confuse AFF for a premium flyers only forum.

Precisely, for last minute domestic bookings, Classic Awards are by far ( nine times out of ten ) better value than a cash fare, when a SYD > MEL will be at least the $139 mark , may even be closer to the $200 mark.

Availability a few days out is quite good, may not be peak hour flights, but a flight or two can be found on a classic award for the busy routes outside peak flying times I've found.

If QF really want to make us happy? Then get rid of the fuel fine component in fares and just let us pay mandatory government charges when we redeem our points!

Is it just me, or has anyone not received an e-mail re. this promotion? Speaking of e-mails .. are QF supposed to send out monthly FF statements as well - I haven't been receiving them for the last few months; and it's ticked under my preferences ...

Surprised no-one has mentioned any classic award SC runs in this thread:

CNS-SYD-MEL-DPS giving 55 SCs for 24k QFF + ~$240 on Jetstar (and a 787)

Probably because the same points cost and less $$$ will get you 140 SC plus earn a ton of miles back as a JASA, and you don't need to fly Jetstar!

The monthly newsletter will have your details on it, and effectively is your statement. You're also able to view your activity over the past 12 months online. However should you need more information specific to your account, our Frequent Flyer team on 13 11 31 or [email protected] would be happy to assist. :)
