Re: No Squiggle!

Not stupid. Actually quite clever. More pax will waste more points for a poor return on SC's.
I have for some time wondered how QF would get us to use our points up more quickly.

I agree that it is a poor return, but lots of people use and buy CLASSIC AWARDS so they ARE getting more than they normally would by booking a Classic award anyway.

Not everybody chases ( or even understands how ASA's work etc)

I think QANTAS deserve a pat on the back and this is definitly a move in the right direction

You miss my point. Yes lots of people DO use classic awards ( in the main) however the ( poor ) status credits incentive is IMHO a ruse to get the more savvy to spend ( more of) their points on classic. , but hey , opinions are like noses........everybody has one

How is NOT wasting points on a Y flight yielding rubbish SC's when a more comfortable option is to fly in J ( or F ) viewed as being negative?

How can getting scs on an award flight that didn't earn it before be considered anything else but positive?

Because we are all inherently skeptical that this is the old bait and switch oops Classic level ASAs are now gone...

I recall a few things announced:
- SIN new First lounge (became one massive J lounge)
- HKG new First lounge (becoming one massive J lounge even though it still has F product)
- MH sponsor into OW so we have more options into Asia (QF sends you to SIN then puts you on 3K to KUL)
- Skybed II on A330s (ok now we wait til end 2014 to get a J suite - but will it eventuate?)
Other members have a longer list.

Do you speak for the whole board ??

Anyway - there is little point continuing discussion. A certain group of people will always look for the negative in everything and there can be no changing it.

My flights from the weekend are posted as 0 points and 0 SC's so it looks like the SC's will be added manually. I'll keep everything just in case i don't see the SC's in the 4-6 weeks or whatever it said on the T&C's

As for flying F or J. Yeah I'd rather that also, but I'd rather spend the money saved, by travelling for longer. Many people are willing to forsake a days worth of extra comfort for more of something else (I did not find QF J comfortable because the width of my shoulders is wider than the shell of the J seat when reclined). I definitely would love to travel F and J but to me the value of the extra money is just not there. Same for 5 star hotels. I don't go to 3rd world countries to be pampered in a 5* hotel. I go crazy on a package tour. Although when travelling for work the better hotels are appreciated.
Its not a clear cut simple decision many make it out to be.

Re: No Squiggle!

Can anybody tell me if this promo is targeted? I haven't received any email...
If it is targeted, would I earn SC if a NB family member (who received the email) books two X tickets in the same PNR?
I've phoned Qantas, and they didn't even know about this promotion.

Re: No Squiggle!

The call centre told me today that only flights booked on the Website will get the status credits; not those booked over the phone (or presumably through an agent). I can't see this in the T & Cs on the email.

Anyone else come across this?

JV

Anyway - there is little point continuing discussion. A certain group of people will always look for the negative in everything and there can be no changing it.

And a certain group will always apologise for Qantas whatever the circumstances. My generalisation is as unhelpful as yours.

In #259 above I gave an example as it affects me. I do not think it good value to effectively spend 41,000 points, as a WP, to save $220.00. This makes the infamous Qantas toaster look a great deal by comparison. The fact that it does not work for me, and I suspect quite a few others, does not make me negative to state it. I am sure there will be some it works for. I am sure it works for Qantas too.

This was sold (by QF) as a way to get to WP. If I were sitting on 1190 ( to retain) and had a week before my year ended, then yes . It would be a (small) positive. I'm not, and so even with the most generous of thoughts I can hardly see how this is a winner (for me). "IF" the offer extended to the whole gammut of travel classes, then YES it would be a real incentive.
There are at least 3 or 4 travel opportunities I would take advange of in that case, BUT not if I have to sit in the back of the plane, collect a few (in my case) measley SC's.
I only need 200 between now and August 2014 to re qual WP.
I can do that more productivly and earn points doing it

How can getting scs on an award flight that didn't earn it before be considered anything else but positive?

Quiet correct my 15 year son has joined QF so with our trip to Lon. Fra. Hon he will be achieve sc on flights that we would have booked regardless
We all had to start somewhere hopefully with this offer he can move into silver and maintain it

My targeted email suggested with this deal I should aim for WP1. So I did a few quick sums and worked out that I could achieve that by doing 77 return flights from Perth to Sydney at a cost of just 2.5m points. I think I'll skip this one.

Guys stop being ridiculous. The email said it could 'HELP' get you to the next level and yes it could help. They aren't saying this is your ticket to P1. The continual negativity and sarcasm is really tiresome. Do you lot always go about life this way?

In the same way a can of aeroguard will " HELP" prevent malaria.

Re: QANTAS Classic awards to Status Credits

How is NOT wasting points on a Y flight yielding rubbish SC's when a more comfortable option is to fly in J ( or F ) viewed as being negative?

It isn't wasting points. It's only your perception on wasting points.

Example I may fly Mel-SYD on a classic award, I won't bother going J so won't try for an ASA. Is that a waste?

Some people would rather fly overseas on points twice rather than once in J. Is that a waste?

The value is in what the end user decides. Some will only use them in premium cabins, some will use then to maximize the number of trips they can do.

Don't belittle people because they use their points differently to you. They aren't using them incorrectly. They might see using then in J or F as a waste too.

And not forgetting those in regional ports, where sometimes fares can be rather expensive, and thus an 8,000 pt classic award redemption can sometimes come close to the value of international business class redemptions.

And there is no J !

Well I have not flown on classic Y awards, mrsdrron certainly would not be agreeable to do it in 2014 so how is it a positive for us?
What got me annoyed was this was promoted as an exciting developement when clearly for a few of us it is of no benefit at all.
So I am not saying the promotion is negative.I am saying that for some it is not positive. But the worst part for me and obviously several others here it was over hyped.
