QF to give SCs for Classic Awards [Economy(X) only, booked by Dec 31]

Two trips will be better. You will easily forget the flights but the places visited are going to remain you for a lifetime.

FWIW - I would go for two trips over one.

Flights are good but holidays are better!

Thanks Guys,

It is very interesting and helpful to see things through a second and third pair of eyes...those not directly involved in the decision can often see more clearly than those who are directly involved.

Currently tending towards 2 x Y awards and would pick up a few SC's along the way.

JV

No doubt there will be a full page of caveats and disclaimers and yet another system to get your head around, if past performance is an indicator of future performance ;)

As I read it only on Economy and paying SC at Discount Economy rate...pity it is not on J

A couple of my reference points from the past

I did a Contiki tour of Western Europe in 1994. I can hardly remember the flights (Olympic airlines) or the budget hotels. But I have not forgotten a lot of the places visited or the bus trip.

I did a Cosmos tour of Central Europe in 2007 as part of an economy Oneworld award and I have trouble remembering the 2*-3* hotels. But I have not forgotten the places we visited along the way.

Hoping to do a tour of Scandinavia and Northern Europe when the time permits and it will more than likely get there with an economy Oneworld award.

Re: No Squiggle!

As I said earlier, it depends on the individual's situation. For those with heaps of points, it may be attractive; for those with lots of money, it isn't. For most of us (with few points and even less $)........bugger. JV

Of course it depends on an individual's situation. Sad thing is that some will see this as attractive without actually checking their own.

Re: No Squiggle!

Neither, it will earn zero SC booked as a classic award in J

Thanks Fiona - appreciate the quick response. So, just for my understanding (yah, I'm one of the slower ones!), the offer *only* provides SCs (at the Discount Y level) for Classic Awards seats in Y, yes?

Cheers, and 'avagoodweekend!

And some will check and still see it as attractive. I know it will work for me in some situations.

You're very welcome and yes that's my understanding of the promo :)

Re: No Squiggle!

Classic awards can be very lucrative when fares are very high! e.g. $455 syd-lord howe island or 8000 points and $80 or so copayment. that's pretty decent. and now you get SC's with it too!

and yes i know X class is hard to get on that route

I can immediately see it being good for those with squillions of points where the cost of redemptions is irrelevant. Perhaps another situation is where someone needs SCs to gain/maintain status but doesn't have the readies to pay for it. Perhaps also on routes where the points needed are low and the dollar cost high.

Anyone with squillions of points would be better served flying on JASA or FASAs and do it in style and comfort IMO...

Families looking for 3,4,5+ tickets might not have any choice.

I'm always booking 4 seats. It's not that easy to secure 4 x F or J seats. When you do manage to secure the seats - it requires a truck load of points!

Understood. Can you leave them at home? Lol ;)

Each to their own. While flying J or F is obviously the nicer way to travel it isn't always possible. Hard to get a family in F when they may only release a couple of seats. FASA's and JASA's just don't work. So flying 4 or 5 in Y is the only way.

Re: No Squiggle!

How about 2F + 2J on same flights ?

Dad +1 and Mum +1

Or

Dad + Mum and child + child (mature, > 15-16)

That's my option.

Haven't had to resort to the split up.....only a matter of time I suppose.

We're kinda lucky that we can book at the last minute. Plenty of classic award seats on BA or CX pop up a few weeks out. I do miss BA10/9 out of Sydney :( Fairly easy to score F/J seats on that now deceased bird.

Re: QANTAS Classic awards to Status Credits

Because some people ALWAYS look for the negative in everything

How is NOT wasting points on a Y flight yielding rubbish SC's when a more comfortable option is to fly in J ( or F ) viewed as being negative?

Re: No Squiggle!

Is this like the stupidest promotion QF has ever run? Hey spend your points on the worst classic awards, pay the all the taxes and get the lowest amount of Status credits available!

Not stupid. Actually quite clever. More pax will waste more points for a poor return on SC's.
I have for some time wondered how QF would get us to use our points up more quickly.
