Re: QANTAS Classic awards to Status Credits

I've always said if you constantly need to do status runs to hold status it's a waste.
Some people love the feeling of status even if they only use it a few times a year.

I am sure JohnK that this will be an upside with you and your regular jaunts on classic awards?
I think it is a good enhancement. When I am ready to redeem for Oneworld economy awards I would hope the promotion is still on offer at the time.

This status thing is overblown sometime and really it's all cattle class any how lately that is in my own experience

Re: QANTAS Classic awards to Status Credits

Why do people keep looking at it solely as a "status run" opportunity?

Because that's what this forum has been about the last few years... and besides, maximising points burn is basically SC running under a different name, if you're going to fly via another city or earn on your burn. The world we live in is always striving for that next level up, that's why users come to AFF, or your site.

This forum has a lot more to offer than status run ideas! What a strange comment.

Re: QANTAS Classic awards to Status Credits

?..

Personally it will work for me next year as i have to book 3 x Y fares to LHR, at least I'll get SC's with this when previously I wouldn't have. It's a bonus for me. Many others book Y RTW award tickets which will also earn some points. we don't always travel in W J or F...

Will you get SC on those bookings next year? My offer says Limited time only....until 31st Dec 2013

The Classic Award Status credits offer is for a limited time only. Economy (X) Classic Award bookings with a QF flight number that are booked between 30 October 2013 and 31 December 2013 will attract Status credits at the Discount Economy rate. To be eligible for the Status credits, you must travel on all Classic Award bookings made during the offer period by 31 December 2014. The Status credits earned through this promotion will count towards your tier membership, but not count towards the four flight rule for reaching or keeping your membership status. Status credits may take up to 6 weeks to appear in your account from the date of flying.

...because that's kind of the way the email/offer was directed to me!

Sorry. My bad.. Didn't read it properly. Looks like you will get benefit from this offer :)

Re: QANTAS Classic awards to Status Credits

You mean waste hours of my life searching for something that someone can tell me in 5 mins ? I will note that down and pass it on next time someone asks me for help thank you :)

You could've searched in google in less time than it took you to post here, just saying..

Hmm, should I refund all those FASA's? Hmm I think not ;)

You'd probably be earning a fair few QFF points with medium/long haul FASAs - enough to warrant keeping them and offsetting the difference. Not to mention there is no guarantee that the fare you cancel will be returned to inventory.

No Squiggle!

Note that from the T&C's, these X class classic awards will not earn a 'squiggle'!([SUP]~[/SUP])

Well that's very interesting indeed.

Re: No Squiggle!

Is this like the stupidest promotion QF has ever run? Hey spend your points on the worst classic awards, pay the all the taxes and get the lowest amount of Status credits available!

Why is is stupid? Classic awards still make up the largest number of award flights booked.

It's better than nothing. Hopefully it's a step in the right direction.

It's funny how some members here will only see the worst in anything, even a genuine enhancement like this! Talk about pessimistic...

Put simply, this offer:
- Doesn't remove any previous offers
- Doesn't increase the cost of bookings
- Give us something we didn't have yesterday

..and people complain?! Sure, it could be:
- Better
- Longer
- Applicable to more classes.

It could also not exist at all!

As someone who'll be booking 2 x OW Explorers (140,000 QFF pt RTWs*), I think it's a fantastic offer (and it covers flights taken throughout ALL of 2014, if booked this year).

Great deal. Thankyou Qantas.

*Evidence suggests the taxes on these are still somewhat reasonable, making them still very, very good value.

Re: No Squiggle!

Am I missing something - if you don't earn a squiggle then it is only limited value to getting to P1 which was one of the touted benefits. I think what most of the naysayers are on about is while it is some benefit it is for a limited time, only applies to X bookings and doesn't earn miles so while it is better than nothing the trumpeting accompanying the announcement was probably a bit over the top for what is basically a slight improvement with a bunch of conditions.

This is long overdue recognition of loyalty to qantas when spending points on awards. Nobody is going to get to P1 solely in classic awards. SYD-LHR return 30 times!!! In Y!!! Once a fortnight. So they will have to take other flights which will get a ~ to make P1.

Don't believe the marketing and certainly don't use such unrealistic marketing to draw a conclusion.
