QF to give SCs for Classic Awards [Economy(X) only, booked by Dec 31]

SWMBO (WP too) got offer at 1:44pm today but nothing for me yet. I think it would take a hell of a lot of Economy classic awards earning discount economy status credits to get to Platinum 1 - choices appear to be 30 return SYD-LHR or 180 return SYD-MEL in a year (and award seats have to be available). "Earning Status credits on eligible flights could help you reach Platinum One status" .

No matter what QF does even when its positive people on aff will always be unhappy.

It it won't hinder, unless you it is an opportunity cost to have flown in a higher cabin, and if it does help, it just won't help very much. As someone who got to WP on 80% discount economy (and 100% domestic economy), I can vouch for the fact that every little bit helps. Buckley's on P1 though.

Just got my email at 3.15pm, a humble Gold with 0056xx_.

Can't think that it's going to excite me much to use my points - only the off chance that before 31/12 that I think I'm not going to re-qual Gold by by anniversary date (28/2) and I had NO other flying planned tahn already booked, needed some discount Y SC's and couldn't afford a red e-deal somewhere...

Qantas, there is no chance I'll reach Platinum by then, as I still need 920 SC's and with only 40K points, that's barely enough for a BNE/SYD/BNE x 2 (40 SC's). I'd rather spend on a one way J BNE/ADL and get 80 SC's which will get me most of the way to re-qual Gold.

Exactly. It says 'HELP' .

Lucky man to get the e-mail. Wonder if they are holding back some Classic seats able to be booked for those who don't get the email until later? 3pm and this WP hasn't received such. Yes, I know about the offer, but what of the vast majority of punters who aren't on AFF? "Aw, gee, no classics available a week either side of when I want to go." Wonder why?

You would think that they would make the booking window from, say, 1 Nov (or in any event, day of announcement + 2 days) so everyone gets the same opportunity.

Too hard for Qantas? Too complex a thought?

Any insights Red Roo on why some Qantas customers are more equal than others (and I'm not talking about Status)?

I seriously doubt 2-3 hours will make much of a difference when the booking window is 2 months wide. Do you honestly think it really makes that much difference?

It'll only make a difference if you, or the other early e-mail receivers, happen to snaffle the particular (already limited) number of classic seats that I (or someone) else was after :)

But my main point was - why not make the start-on time in the future for everyone, so everyone's in the same boat? Surely that's an obvious thing for Qantas to do, and even the QF IT department should be able to handle it?

Now 4:45pm, still no e-mail (my m'ship # 15xx_XX). I know ?millions of e-mails can't be sent out in one hit, and they must be staged. I dunno ... it might be 12 hours from beginning to end? That would make an obvious difference, given the limited supply of classic seats.

Aside from SYD-HNL i have never had an issue looking up Y award seating. the start time actually began yesterday anyway, before anyone got the email. Had they started it later I am sure people would have complained.

Email is a bit disingenuous. Unless someone reads the very fine print they could be easily misled into believing any award fare is eligible.

After all, Qantas has received a Shonky Award from Choice Magazine (re Qantas search toolbar).

EDIT: Be still my heart! E-mail received! whY bliss!

I was just about to post that my email still wasn't here, but I'd get it at some stage, it'd offer P1 to me, but I'd know I couldn't get there in 2 months flying Y- as that'd be 960k points worth of zone 1 flights. Unless my math is wonky of course. Then my email arrived, and I still know I can't get there. Even under DSC, I only have a tenth of the points needed! :(

A thought, does this apply to all bookings in X class, or just bookings in X class made through QFF?

X class on QF flights ...

SWMBO email arrived circa 14:20, mine and mini an hour or so later.

This may help some and good luck to them.

Re: QANTAS Classic awards to Status Credits

With reading the first 5 pages and still having no idea what this means. And having no ideas what Jasa and masa and ASAS Means. My question is if I book a J return flight to nan from Sydney what happens here? And If I book one flight from one account and one flight from another account would it be better or more benefit to transfer the QF points all into one account to gain more SC ?

And I also picked up that this is for Y fares so would that mean my J seats don't accumulate SC . And is there is charts I can refer to so I can work out what the actual amounts I can earn will be.

thank you very much !

There are many threads on this forum for mASA, JASA and ASA in general - let your fingers do the walking.

Yes, X fares, discount Y SC earn

The QF website has this in the 'status credits' part of the frequent flyer section

My email arrived at 346pm QF no 125xx_X.

A very underwhelming offer IMO, unless you had a bazillion FF points, and did not value your time or points at all (given the fairly poor redemption value in burning QFF points for a lot of Y class travel) and if you did not know about the possibility of getting proper JASAs.

Seems like a fast way to burn a lot of QFF points for not much SC earn at all, so not really tempting me......

WP. Arrived 5:07pm

JASA still the preferred spending. Otherwise I'll need to start collecting toasters.

Not everyone travels in J etc for award bookings, many do still choose Y. I have on many occasion. especially when you need to book a few tickets together. can't do that in J.
