Re: QANTAS Classic awards to Status Credits

One off might indicate MASA's to stay.

Ongoing may be the end of mASA's ...

Not a good thing as at would mean the end of MEL-ASP via SYD for 24000 points or TSV-xBNE-DRW etc.

Just received too will be interesting to see the offer

Re: QANTAS Classic awards to Status Credits

I'm getting a bad feeling that they'll try to claw some of this back by jacking up the points or taxes required for a classic award.

Just had a horrid thought - a Classic award with a "Max" package ...

I'd be happy with that......wonder if they'll include other OW partners:?:

That wouldn't bother me at all (well, depending on the price). Isn't that effectively what a JASA at classic levels is?

Re: QANTAS Classic awards to Status Credits

VA did a 6 month promo this year where SCs were earnt on Classic Award Seats (this vaulted me up to WP very quickly). Perhaps QF are just going to do a similar short-term promo.

NO - not with the GCmap based minimum points calculation of a mASA. (e.g. CBR-xSYD-HBA is calculated on CBR-HBA distance [< 600 miles])

Re: QANTAS Classic awards to Status Credits

Great news if this is permanent - though I suspect it will be a promo to encourage mixed classic/commercial bookings. I just had a look at some ex-AU to USA fares and classic awards are now showing up in the searches alongside commerical fares as they have been for domestic for some time now. I think it will be linked to this functionality. As for what is "eligible" - I think only QF metal.

Re: QANTAS Classic awards to Status Credits

I'm sure you can read as well as anyone else here... soon :p

From what I've seen, no fixed date in the fine print.

Ok left in the dark then, glad I have no current points bookings.

Resident Red Roo can you say when?.

Re: QANTAS Classic awards to Status Credits

Yes, I got email too. I think it's right to be sceptical but can't also help be a bit hopeful that these will be permanent (genuine) improvements.

I watched through the vide and it implied muti-city bookings could be done in different classes and using a wider range of partner airlines. Is that new, or did I mis-hear??

Re: QANTAS Classic awards to Status Credits

So mASA's price on a start-point to end-point distance with essentially free stops in between but classics will add each leg to get the price?

Essentially, mASAs (if we call it that ) are minimum priced from start to end direct (but I think there must be a published fare between those two points, otherwise it will be higher. For example you can't do BNE-SYD-OOL and get it to price as a one-way zone 1 as a minimum).

That said, the "additional legs" are not exactly free as they increase the co-pay but by an undetermined amount (just as if you had selected an indirect option if you had booked the same flights in cash).

I think I predicted all the commentary that was coming to this thread eeking out of the woodworks way before they appeared....

Anyway..... I imagine that this will be a once off (or, at best, periodic) promotion, and will function similar to Virgin's, i.e. only SCs, no points. I'm not sure it'll last for six months - I see it more like any other promo, i.e. maybe only two or three months. Maybe this will only apply to QF marketed flights (so EK classics, again, will be no earn, as will other partners and JQ). Maybe they'll tack a rider on it, e.g. when booked in conjunction with a cash fare, so to get SCs on the entire itinerary you need a cash fare and then all Classics on it will be earning. Which of course would create a bit of hell for those who would like to exploit this in J or F.

Notwithstanding my last sentence, if they instituted this system where you got SCs on Classics and that's it, I'd be reasonably happy. Yes, they will not be as good as the old ASAs due to higher points cost (point to point, almost) and no points earned on such fares, but it would truly mean that every (almost) award flight would be SC earning, and at Classic award rates. For WPs who can request seats, that's a boon. Remember that there is almost no other programme in the world which offers elite qualifying credit for award flights.

Re: QANTAS Classic awards to Status Credits

There is a little # after it, which means some kind of enhancement

To celebrate the launch of this new functionality, you will soon be able to enjoy a Qantas Frequent Flyer exclusive offer that will allow you to earn Status credits on eligible Classic Award[SUP]#[/SUP] fares. I wonder what eligible means.

Re: QANTAS Classic awards to Status Credits

It's not left in the dark so much as a teaser to build up hype.

mmm... not good for those about to book a classic this"teaser", maybe once in place it will be retrospective or from date of flying.

If you have travel to book then waiting isn't ever an option. If you don't need to book then you can wait.

If previous promos have been anything to go by it will only include bookings from the date it's introduced.

Re: QANTAS Classic awards to Status Credits

If this actually eventuates without too many out clauses in the near future, I will be one very happy chappy.

Your not alone.

I just find it annoying not to be told the full story or when it may commence or if its a permanent feature, teasing customers is not the way to do business.
