Re: QANTAS Classic awards to Status Credits

Saying 'its an amazing offer' makes me think it'll just be for select routes or periods to drum up business.

Re: QANTAS Classic awards to Status Credits

Shame it's only SC earn, and not point earn too.

Yes the word "offer" is of concern, its probably selected so all hoopla really, arr.. and we can still dream of the once mighty ASA's.

Re: QANTAS Classic awards to Status Credits

Well there goes that theory!
Certainly, I'm 06xx_xx and did not receive it until 12:32pm.

Interrogating the header, it was generated at 11:54am - spent most of that intervening time at "omp.email.qantas.com" before arriving at my ISP.

Re: QANTAS Classic awards to Status Credits

I got mine at 7.26am and I am a 5 digit member 17xx_

Re: QANTAS Classic awards to Status Credits

... still waiting (106xx_x).
Was hoping to find it in my daily spam box.
However, very timely, I've been avoiding explaining the mASA procedure to MrsB (PS). She probably wouldn't believe it.

Re: QANTAS Classic awards to Status Credits

I think the order is based on when you originally opted in to receive emails, I seem to get them pretty quickly.

Re: QANTAS Classic awards to Status Credits

The stupid thing is that by staggering the release of information on this it will just mean that everyone holds off booking travel, announce it already!

Re: QANTAS Classic awards to Status Credits

Emails can be delayed for any number of reasons. I've just been arguing (discussing with slightly raised voice maybe) with a client who started out with the line "I'm a lawyer so definately no IT guru but....." about an email being caught in the spam filter for 24 hours before she was told. The header clearly showed it was stuck elsewhere in internet land with her home ISP.

As for SC's on classic awards. It would be great. I was looking at a short CBR-SYD-CBR hop on Saturday, rather than drive. Classic its 16,000 +$100, or 28,800, vs ASA 37800. so if SC's were available on the former and are still 10SC each way, that would be good. Although I can't help thinking maybe the SC's for classic will be less than red e-deals.

Re: Has anyone had success with the 'call-up' cheap xASA method?

Not sure if this is the best place to post this, but below is part of an email just received from Qantas.

To celebrate the launch of this new functionality, you will soon be able to enjoy a Qantas Frequent Flyer exclusive offer that will allow you to earn Status credits on eligible Classic Award[SUP]#[/SUP] fares. This means you could earn Status credits towards your next Membership level while enjoying one of the great perks of the program. Look out for more information on this in the coming days.

Can not immediately see the # conditions but this could be some good news.

Re: QANTAS Classic awards to Status Credits

Getting back to the new booking page, I was checking a flight to Dubai. I got the following....how come I cannotpay for a business seat but can select a classic?? When I go to next page, it definately confirms the booking as business??

CLASSIC SALE SAVER FLEX

\Posted a bit differently from the cut...but the seat available refers to the classic award but the three business fares do not allow for any booking to be paid for.

Re: QANTAS Classic awards to Status Credits

Heres the #

# Classic Award seats are subject to capacity controls and availability is limited, particularly around peak times such as school and public holidays. Some flights may not have any Classic Award seats available. For Classic Awards, taxes, fees and carrier charges are payable in addition to the points required, are subject to change and are quoted at the time of booking. The ability to redeem taxes, fees and carrier charges for travel entirely within Australia and for selected international (commencing in Australia) is only available when booking at qantas.com and 'Search Qantas & Partner Classic Awards' has not been selected. For domestic New Zealand Classic Awards, the ability to redeem taxes, fees and carrier charges with Qantas Points is only available on qantas.com when the 'Search Qantas & Partner Classic Awards' checkbox is selected before searching for flights. Classic Award seats must be booked at least 24 hours before scheduled departure, unless you are booking on qantas.com where you can book up to 2 hours before departure for domestic flights and up to 4 hours before departure for international flights (some regional and overseas locations may require booking up to 14 days or more in advance). Applicable pricing will be displayed during the booking process on qantas.com. Where mixed-class travel is booked on a Trip, the points required for that Trip will be calculated using the points level for the highest class of travel flown on that Trip. To find out more about Classic Awards, visit qantas.com.

Did some trial bookings and it seems like the ASA price is just the points + pay option using only points.
A bit disappointing and they wanted 219k one way for J SYD-HKG.

That's because there's no 'classic' awards available, and you probably would have seen the same price under the old system too. Hence why it's called an Any Seat Award :p

Re: QANTAS Classic awards to Status Credits

I had been hoping for this for so long and hoping that QANTAS would bring it in. Now I'm just hoping that it's a standard feature. If so, it would be fantastic. It's nice getting points back on a MASA, but it would be nicer to pay the lower taxes, forgo the points return and still get the SCs. If you can announce this is permanent, QANTAS, I would be thrilled.

The other news, choosing classic awards and cash fares all in the same booking would be equally fantastic. I have to book lots of fares as separate because I haven't had this functionality. That means guaranteed connections from flights being all on the one booking, which will be fantastic.

I'm hoping this will be good news. If this is here to stay, this is a major win for QF, Red Roo! Please please please make it a standard and permanent feature!

60,000 pts $393 AUD for classic Y return
115,200 pts for their ASA. (Still the full points and pay total)

Dates I searched were 17th June to 21st Aug

Also, if you combine this with the P1 guarantee ("if there's a seat available, it's yours as a Classic Award") may have just become a whole lot more valuable.

Are you sure that's a "guarantee"? I know that P1s are entitled to extra Classic Award inventory which may be derived out of existing revenue fare buckets, but I didn't read that as a "guarantee" (despite the high chance of success as the case may be).

Besides, it's a nice boon for the P1s but keeping in mind that most people will shoot for vanilla Platinum but hardly shoot for Platinum One.
